This is a story about Kansas City. And right now it doesn’t end well.
There’s a child in third grade who can’t read at her grade level.
Her future looks bleak.
She is likely to drop out of high school, not find a job and have kids who can’t read either.
Around town, jobs are disappearing.
Because the more children there are like her, the more companies go away.
And there are people deciding the number of prison cells to build based on how many there are like her right now.
In third grade.
She is just one of thousands with the same story being told
over and over and over again. The story ends the same every time unless we do something to help.
We can get her ready to learn by
reading, playing and talking with her.
And wanting to learn means showing up to learn. And continuing to learn at the right grade level. All the way up.
We can help h find a job, hav to them so th to learn. Maki for everyone.
her go to college, ve kids and read hey, too, are ready ing our town better .
The simplest things
make the biggest difference.
You can help. Make a donation, give away books, or become a reading mentor.
