SOUTH AMERICA | CABERNET FRANC
The Cabernet Franc variety is well established in a number of sub-regions of Chile and Argentina, where it is often used as a blender. However, there has been a surprisingly wonderful array of excellent Cabernet Franc-exclusive wines arriving in New Zealand, via our shipments, that have redefined its role as a supporting actor. Pop one open and you’ll encounter green pepper characters, some earthiness, floral nuances and a fresh vitality to these wines that make them well worth checking out. Read More..
RENACER A little slice of Italy in the middle of Argentina and they make an Amarone too! Located in Perdriel, a sub region of Lujan de Cuyo, known for its exceptional locality for viticulture. The winery and approach to the wines has an Italian feel, the grounds designed to give a Tuscan feel, winning the owners first prize in the small winery category for the most innovative winery from Argentina. Established in 2002 the winery today continues to be owned by Patricio Reich, a Chilean entrepreneur with a love for wine, Malbec in 2
particular. Head winemaker Lucas Amoretti has access to top notch Italian technology and winemaking expertise, to ensure he crafts the very best Italian inspired, though truly Argentinean wines. Their Amarone, made from Malbec (and other) grapes was started as a joint project with the Allegrini family from Italy. There’s four levels of wines in the range, Punto Final, Punto Final Reserva, the Amarone and Renacer, the top wines. Read More...
RIGLOS In 2016 the owners of Huarpe partnered with long term friends Darío Werthein and Fabián Suffern, from Buenos Aires. Dario and Fabian were the founders of the highly acclaimed winery Riglos. Riglos wines are crafted from a single estate, Finca Las Divas, which is situated at 4265 feet above sea level in the Gualtallary, in the Tupungato sub region of the Uco Valley. Considered one of the top wineries in Argentina, these wines are sought after by sommeliers and collectors. The name Riglos, comes from the area where Dario and Fabian’s ancestors arrived in Argentina, a tribute to them and family. Read More..

SOUTH AMERICA | CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Bordeaux’ aristocratic Cabernet Sauvignon grape has adapted well to the soils and climates of both Argentina and Chile, where they are free of phylloxera and are grown ungrafted. The variety is the mainstay of well structured Bordeaux-style blends and a number of diverse regional varietals. Stylistically the wines vary considerably, but tend to deliver well-defined fruit, displaying classic varietal aromas and flavours backed by savoury, textural subtleties and distinctive regional traits. KAIKEN It was precisely the wines of Argentina that attracted Montes into that country and right from the start, in 2001, they went about the task of acquiring for KAIKEN the best grapes produced in the area. After going through all the best grape producing estates, they finally decided to go for the exceptional quality of that in the First Zone (MaipĂş, Cruz de Piedra, Ugarteche, Agrelo) as well as from Valle de Uco. Along with a hard selection of the best producers, they meticulously supervise each step and work in the vineyard from start to finish of each growing season, observing well 4

ZUCCARDI Zuccardi are one of the most prominent winemaking families in Argentina. Established by Alberto Zuccardi who was an engineer that specialised in irrigation. He planted his first winery, to show how his irrigation system that he’d developed worked, irrigation very important when growing grapes in a dessert. It was the next generation, also Alberto that really put the winemaking part of the family history onto the map. Alberto had two children,

which the grapes are grown to the best of his ability. Sebastian is part of a new generation in Argentina that’s driving a focus on individual sites, different terroirs and dividing up the vast lumped together regions, such as the Uco Valley. The site pictured here was bought 10 years ago and established by Sebastian. The focus at this winery is on concrete and minimal oak use, the winery built from material located on the site. Unlike many Argentinean wineries who focus on export, half of Zuccardi’s wine made remains in Argentina, a local favourite. Read More...
