TheOldCityistheperfectwalkingtown,buta drivingnightmare
TheUNESCOWorldHeritageSiteisaverysmallarea.It includesUpperTown(withintherampartwalls),Lower Town(betweentherampartsandtheStLawrenceriver) andtheareaalongaportionoflaGrandeAlleeEst(the PlainsofAbraham,theNationalMuseumofArtandthe NationalParliament).
Whilesmallinitshorizontalarea,only1.4sq.kl.(0.54sq. miles),theverticalelevationchangefromLowerTownto theUpperRampartsisanimpressive98meters(322 feet).Therefore,muchofexploringtheUNESCOWorld HeritageSiteisliterallywalkingupordown.Whilethe walkscanbereversedindirection,theyarepresentedin amannerthatminimizeslongup-hillclimes.
SomeofthewalksandstrollsfocusonUpperTown, withinlaMaisonUrsulines’immediateneighborhood.

TheOldCityistheperfectwalkingtown,butadriving nightmare.Themanynarrow,one-waystreetsalways seemtoheadawayfromyourvehicle’sdestination.
Alltheone-waystreetsandthemanypedestrian-only thoroughfarespointtoonesolution;parkthevehiclesin oneofmanyundergroundparkingcomplexes(wesuggestthelargeandinexpensiveparkinggarageattheCity Hall…oneblockawayfromlaMaisonUrsulines)and walk,strollandexploretheOldCityadaleisurelyfootpace.
