The Saint John's Illuminated Bible Arrives in Galveston

The Heritage Edition of the Saint John's Illuminated Bible was gifted to Trinity, Galveston. Out of 299 Heritage Editions in the world, the Saint John's Bible at Trinity is one of only eight available to the public in the state of Texas. All seven volumes were made available on display at the community open house Oct. 2, 2022, and the public was invited to view the very special gift.

According to the Galveston Daily News coverage of the event, there are 1,150 pages in the Bible with approximately 300 sheets of calfskin vellum. Each full page of its calligraphy required about one workday to complete.

The article written Sept. 28, 2022 by reporter Rick Cousins featured in the newspaper’s “Faith” section quotes the Rev. Jimmy Abbott as he discussed the beauty and scope of the illuminated Bibles.
