Distinguished Adviser Eddye Gallagher, Tarrant County College’s longtime director of student publications, will receive a national award this month to honor her years of service in advising. College Media Association will present Eddye with the Distinguished Two-Year Newspaper Adviser of the Year award Oct. 30 at its national convention in Philadelphia. Newspaper thieves still busy on campus The Student Press Law Center reported on its website that each year dozens of student newspapers and other publications across the country are stolen. Most recently, SPLC reported that 800 copies of the student newspaper at Elmhurst College (IL) were found in trash cans and compost bins. Five Rho Theta members admitted taking the papers. Iowa State also reported that 1,900 copies of the Iowa State Daily had been thrown in trash cans across campus. SPLC reported in 1997 that the center had heard from hundreds of student publications that have had problems with newspaper theft. Thefts are reported to the SPLC from across the nation and marked on a map of the US. Texas locations identified on the newspaper theft map include Midwestern State University (2004), University of North Texas (2001), Texas A&M-Commerce (2010), University of TexasArlington (2001), TCU (2008), University of Texas-Austin (2001), San Antonio College (2012), Texas A&M-Kingsville (2011), University of Texas-El Paso (2008).
