Comrades and Auxiliary, Hello and greetings to all my Comrades and Auxiliary members of the great State of Texas. We are the “Second to None” team. Summer has passed and fall has arrived. By now everyone has received my Commanders program for 2018-2019 year. I would encourage every District and Post to submit an All State Packet for this year. Audits are beginning and District Commanders are out inspecting Posts. If any Post or District is having issues or needs any type of assistance please reach out and ask for assistance. We have a wealth of knowledge in the field who can and will assist if you give them the opportunity.
STATE COMMANDER’S COLUMN
The State Senior Vice, State Junior Vice, State Chief of Staff and Deputy State Inspectors are available to assist you with your concerns. Our tradition of leading the Nation in Membership is seriously being threatened. I ask that you please help in recruiting new members. Conduct recruiting events or roundups in your communities and Reserve/National Guard Centers. If you need assistance please call the Department Mobile Recruiting Team and ask for Chris Vieyra or Lonnie Garza who can work with you on your recruiting event. Please give them some lead time to schedule the event with you. They are the best of the best. As I travel throughout the State, I’m seeing a lot of work occurring and I want to applaud each and every one of you for your efforts. THANK YOU! Beautification is happening at our VFW Posts. Posts are becoming more attractive and appealing. New signage is also making Posts more attractive. This new attraction is making our eligible Veterans open their eyes. Be aware that the Veterans who stay away do so in some cases due to deteriorating conditions at the Post and recruits are hesitant to bring their families because of this. Ask new members what they would like to see happen at the Post and help them “Make it Happen” as the Commander in Chief says. Please appreciate their service and also the help they give to the Post. I ask that everyone please remember MEMBERSHIP. Every member is a RECRUITER and every member counts so, get out and recruit a new member. Comrades we must do a better job of promoting the Veterans of Foreign Wars for exactly what it is and what the Veterans of Foreign Wars actually does. NO ONE DOES MORE FOR VETERANS. In addition, we must and will mentor and welcome new and younger members. Encourage them to take leadership roles in their assigned Posts and work with them, be at their side and develop them to be our future Commanders. In closing I ask that each of you focus on Membership! LATE BREAKING NEWS! I had the opportunity on the VFW Birthday to institute a new VFW Post in District 29, Whitney, Texas. This was an enormous honor for me. VFW Post 12176 Whitney, Texas is doing well. I’ve had the opportunity to meet a lot of Veterans who now are members of the greatest War Veterans Organization — the Veterans of a Foreign Wars. I am looking forward to traveling the State of Texas over the next eight months to visit Districts and Posts.
May God Bless every one of you, and God Bless the United States of America.

THE GENERAL BENJAMIN DAVIS VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS POST 9191 in Killeen, Texas recently hosted a mental health forum to provide awareness and support to veterans, active duty service members and their families.
