Lamar Stomps NPI 42-6 The Lamar Tech Cardinals opened their 12-game season by trouncing Mexico City's Polytechnic Institute 42-6. The Burros' defense held Lamar scoreless in the first period, but early in the second quarter, Jimmy Davis plunged over from the 2-yard line and Lamar led 7-0. Later in the same period, Robert Tolar booted a 34-yard field goal to push Lamar to a 10-0 halftime lead. The Cardinals opened the second half with two quick tallies by Charles Dinhoble and Jimmy Davis. The fourth quarter was all Lamar— Fontenot from the 11; Davis from the 9; and McGaughy's 40-yard punt return completed the Cardinal barrage. In the last minute of the game, with the help of two 15 and one 5-yard penalties, the Burros scored their lone touchdown.
