Cardinals Smash Mexico Poly, 62-22 Completely out-classing the Mexico Polytechnic Burros, Lamar ran up a 62-22 decision in the Mexico City contest. The Tangerine Bowl-bound Cardinals led by 21 points in the first quarter and with reserves pouring in, had a 34-7 edge at halftime. Halfback Bobby Jancik scored 12 points to bring his season total to 62. Other Cardinals scoring were John Kent with 12 points, Walter Smith booted seven points, and Bruce Land, Ken McRill, John Beuhler, Billy McBay and Harold Mayo each scored one touchdown. The Cardinals accounted for 543 yards total offense — 294 via aerials and 249 on the ground.
