Frosted Dreams Bridal Interior Collection

Alexandra is a creative print designer, passionate about aesthetics and visual styling. Having studied Surface Design at the University of Huddersfield, she draws a focus on creating versatile designs for use in both fashion and interiors. Her personal style incorporates layering drawings and traditional hand-print methods, with digital design techniques.

Frosted Dreams The Collection The ‘Frosted Dreams’ collection takes fashion as inspiration for interior surfaces, influenced by current apparel trends and forming a relationship between design in both departments. It consists of surface designs for relaxing and comfortable bridal boutiques. Possible ‘feature’ products include wall panels, tabletops and room dividers. The designs complement the existing style and colours of the boutique’s décor. The concept is to capture the movement and beauty of a textile, trapping them under the cold glass. There is a visual contrast of materials as hard materials are married with lightweight fabrics. With an intimate aesthetic, inspiration is taken from the body and light textures. Delicate florals feature within the prints, adding to the femininity created through semi-sheer fabrics and the importance of a subtle colour palette. ‘Frosted Dreams’ provides a newer direction on laminated glass, drawing a focus toward printed fabrics and the combination of layered elements with varied transparencies.

FABRIC SAMPLES Printed fabrics are a key component in the surface design collection, incorporating digital drawings, hand prints, scans and dye transfers. They have been manipulated through CAD and then worked into using the traditional method of screen printing.

VISUALISATION

1- Transparent Observation This design has a focus on contrast between block white areas, barely-there stripes and sketchy florals which show movement and freedom while still being controlled by the overplaced layers. Some light is allowed through and some is blocked out, making it perfect for glass panel room dividers. Varnished areas create a lace-look delicate element, complementing the lace dresses on display.

2- Frozen Moments This glass divider has a dream-like appearance with a romantic tint. It captures a moment in time with its incorporated ice photography, containing flowers and printed fabrics. The cold, hard glass encapsulates the movement of the fabric underneath, creating visual depth. Stripes add structure but are produced with frosted-look edges.

3- Rippled Satin

This textural design has a theme of folds and waves, adding depth through the layers. Toned down feminine colours are contrasted against the darker ribbons. Featuring shimmering satin as a base material and varnish areas in the foreground, this piece is light reflective, and demonstrates the movement of fabrics and freedom when placed in a naturally well-lit space.

This feature wall panel consists of simplistic layering, heat manipulated to reflect the drapes and gathers of the wedding dresses. The textures are controlled by a binding ribbon and trapped under a protective glass layer. The light folds and pale colours create a relaxed mood with a dreamy feel.

5- Built Opacity Combining digital and hand layered techniques, this design features as a glass table top in a wedding planner shop, becoming a focal point against the surrounding light coloured decor. The colours remain feminine and by matching the surface to the soft funrishings, a homely feel is achieved. Popular geometric patterns are overlaid, symbolising structure, relating to the organisation necessary in the planning of a wedding. They contrast against the delicate, rippled look of the fabric underneath.
