Design Statement. I am a textile craft designer within the context of print; I focus my designs on the notion of process. My main source of inspiration for my current collection at the University of Huddersfield is light and photography. I use my digital sony SLR camera as a drawing tool, capturing the movement of light. What interests me most about light painting is the ability to draw in a three dimensional space, and the possibility to alter the reality without post processing programs. What further inspires me is how the photographs that I produce contain linier lines, dramatic colours and have an ‘unknown’ or somewhat abstract aspect to them.

Process & Development. The next stage of my process is applying the patterns and shapes created in my light drawing into print. Passionate about handcraft, and with a new desire to explore future textiles and new technologies I applied my skills, balancing craft and technology together. Fusing craft with the digital in a contemporary way. I use traditional, handcrafted techniques before and after printing my designs. Sometimes I will use devore, embroidery, fabric manipulation and resist techniques on the fabrics before applying digital print. And other times I will apply alternative hand techniques after processing, using methods such as discharge to work back into the print. Layering is an important aspect within my designs, combining techniques to create bespoke designs for commercial retail.

Design Focus. The collection of samples you see in this press pack is not a finished collection, they have further evelopment opportunities, however, i did design them with a focus in mind for interiors, and can easily be applied to more commercial products.
