AW14/15
Deborah Whitham
[Designer Statement] Inspired and highly influenced by all things natural and beautiful. I enjoy taking inspiration from everyday outdoor Spaces. Floral, foliage and animals appear in my design work frequently with added bright and feminine colour palettes. Using my own photography to capture these scenes and objects, which I can then take forward to my design work. I like experimenting with different techniques to create my desired effects on paper and then editing these on Photoshop and finally portraying my designs on fashion illustrations.
[Project Synopsis] ‘Neon Woodland’ is a trend inspired by woodland animals; deers, owls and hedgehogs, and their natural surroundings in autumnal woodland areas. To add a twist on original stereotypes of dark woodlands, a fresh neon look has been combined together with woodland photography, which has been digitally and hand manipulated using various medias for this trend. Screen-printing and sublimation print photography have been combined using multiple layers of designs on the fabrics to create interesting fabrics. Specialist techniques are vital in this trend; foiling, flocking and devore are used to give an extra special finish to the fabrics. The use of lightweight silks and chiffons work perfectly in this trend and for the handle of the end use intended. ‘Neon Woodland’ is aimed at the mid to high-end womenswear accessories market for AW14/15. Fabrics are intended for printed scarves, but could also be applied for prints on other matching accessories. Aimed at young women, the typical ‘Accessorize’ customer.
