STATEMENT
‘How skin can be treated as a surface’ This collection was created around my fascination of skin. How we identify skin as well as how diverse our skin can look through pigmentation. In particular I have focused my research around colour, elasticity etc. I began by researching and looking into skin such as aging, varicose veins and also looking at the colouration within skin. I am influenced by using controlled experimentation with a combination of making the material or creating a surface to look more appealing through processes. As an individual I am driven and inspired by producing materials and focusing on the properties of a material. My main process is to create a material rather than working directly onto a material, this interests me because I feel that it has a more personal and intuitive interpretation of me. Throughout this project my main focus has been to produce a series of samples, the main material surrounding this collection was latex. This was my first time working with this material. Most of my samples have an aesthetic appearance; specifically latex is the consistent material which forms the collection. Individually I have focused on giving the pieces their own identity, using colour and processes as a way to transform them into unique pieces that may be used as a statement either throughout fashion or interiors. Personally I wanted people to feel as though they could interact with my samples, initially allowing them to become engaged with the materials. I have displayed my samples as a final collection in a scientific sense as I wanted to create a clinical feel to my work. Addressing to the audience that they can handle and touch my samples.
