The idea for this trend originated from two WGSN Macro trends predicted for S/S 2015. ‘ Bio Dynamic and History’, I wanted to create a trend that was inspired by elements of these two trends; ‘Bio dynamic’ is a vibrant and bold trend that studies the form and structures of micro- organisms. Whereas ‘History’ is inspired by de-extinction and the concept of living forever or prolonging life, using old techniques and crafts to help this. This inspired me to create a trend that embraces Natural Remedies to improve health and wellbeing and contrasting this with elements from scientific medicines and microscopic cells.

015

I began by researching into a list of herbal remedies that cured simple illnesses like colds and flu, I used this information to find ingredients that I could draw from. These drawings where then manipulated using Photoshop and Illustrator, I focused on small detailing of my floral drawings to create repeat patterns that resembled microscopic cells, I later used some of these images to expose my screen. Throughout my development work I created sketchbooks with a range of experimental techniques in. I tried to create patterns using a mix of collaging and drawings, I then scanned these in so that I could manipulate them usingCAD and repeated this technique to develop my ideas. Once I had enough drawings and ideas to focus on, I brought these into my fabric sample designs. I experimented with a range of techniques and fabrics from Dyeing, Discharge Dyeing, Digital Printing, Screen Printing, Mono Printing, Transfer printing and Devore. Each sample was worked into using a range of these techniques to create textured and layered bold prints. As this trend was aimed towards Women’s wear Spring/ Summer, I wanted to create bright and bold, sheer lightweight fabric designs that could be used as part of a contrasting print collection.
