Project Statement Nature’s Skins explores the textures of organic surfaces, examining pattern, line and marks of natural exteriors. With this project I wanted to explore the relationship between aesthetics and touch, creating a collection of tactile fabrics. Texture is a sensory quality of aesthetics which I intended to utilise within this collection, combing a visual and sensory experience. With textiles our initial reaction to cloth is to touch it, we want to feel the textures of the fabric; we naturally seek to connect with the cloth. With this notion I wanted to explore the sensory experience, using textures to encourage interaction with the fabrics. An investigation of materials and textures motivated this project, intelligently combining pattern and texture to disguise the fabrics tactile surface by its visual appearance. The element of the unexpected is an additional contributor to the aesthetic experience, it sparks curiosity and discovery.
