Beauty in imperfection is a project started to challenge my own ideas about what beauty is and the way that everyone creates their own ideas of what perfection and beauty is. I believe that our idea of beauty has become unrealistic, the expectations of perfection and beauty have grown out of control and people are always expecting more. Beauty can be found anywhere but a lot of people do not see it, so I wanted to take a different approach to finding beauty. My inspiration was from my summer away in Canada, where I kept being drawn to run down buildings and items that would not be seen as conventionally beautiful. The
project is an exploration of the contrast between beauty and imperfection. At the beginning of this project, I did lots of research into different areas, which really helped to inspire me and see that this idea is being accepted and would be worth pushing further. I also took a lot of my own photographs, I have used some from my summer in Canada and I went out to take photos of old abandoned buildings and places that I thought looked tired and distressed. These photos really gave me a passion to pursue this idea, I love the fact that the old is becoming the new, things that are weathered and not necessarily perfect are beautiful.
