Woodland Wonders is a project inspired by the drawing techniques used by children, as well as the illustrations used for childrens stories. Its started with the exploration of drawings created by finger painting and potato printing, which developed into exploring how children draw. Following this, illustrations were created both in a formal and childlike manner with inspiration drawn from the likes of Beatrix Potter, Quentin Blake and Cicely Mary Baker. This included their themes and styles of drawing. More illustrations were created and developed to become childrens wallpaper designs, involving experimentation with placement and colour of images. It was then decided that these wallpaper designs were to become interactive, allowing the child to continue expressing their own drawing style within their own bedroom. Three final designs were created with a limited colour palette allowing the child to add their own, whilst also incorporating different learning styles such as using a dot to dot image and dashed lettering to practice their writing.
Text & Draw
This design combines the text and images together without colour. This allows the child to colour the images in as they please This design can also be used for soft furnishing fabrics
Leaves
This ‘Leaves’ design is intended to be used as a wallcovering for a child’s room. The children are encouraged to make use of the wallcovering by drawing, writing or colouring onto it to make their own mark. The dotted writing aims to help with children learning to write, encouraging them to follow the lines. This design could also be used for crafting fabrics or soft furnishing fabrics.
Connect Me
This design sees the colour totally eliminated, leaving just the black and white images, which are to be connected by the child. Again, this design encourages the child to become creative, allowing them to add their own colour and drawings to the piece. The images themselves are of woodland animals which become more apparent after and if the dots are connected. This design can also be used for crafting or soft furnishing fabrics.
