Eclectic Vibes My starting point for this project was coming across an influential photographer who captured a bohemian festival styling in her images. As I focus on knitted design I was in awe of all of the knitted structures the models in her images were wearing and how these fabrics flowed so well with the theme. I was inspired to create my own unique collection mixing a range of materials and techniques within a earthly tonal yet striking colour palette. I fittingly named this collection ‘eclectic vibes’ as such a range of colours and designs were to be experimented. It focuses around a relaxed yet exciting vibe, mixing all varieties of materials and tones in a non daunting way. It is diverse and varied, loud- yet not too in your face, an all round comfortingly natural celebration. My sketchbook and creations were inspired from natural forms such as corn, feathers and florals. Many mark making techniques were expressed which heavily influenced my final knit outcomes. I really enjoyed developing my knit samples through various techniques- many which I discovered through trail and error. Mixing yarns and doubling up on colours together to create multi tonal fuller looking knit samples worked brilliantly well and enabled my creations to look even more unique and creative. I embellished some of them to define intricacy and detail, plus I experimented with tasselling and laying in different yarn slubs to create great textures. Using the brother and dubied knitting machines really aided my development- dubied in particular as it is a double bed machine helped me to create chunky thick styles which I embraced. The overall feeling my knits aimed to create was an eclectic hippie style for womenswear knitted clothing. The designs would be easy to wear, baggy, warm and comfortable- perfect for a festival with friends.
