Insectescent
Press Pack
Rebecca Horner
After a trip to the Manchester Museum I was insp different patterns and colourings on the insects shells. I collected several different insects and
pired by all of the entomology. I enjoyed all the s, in particular the iridescence of the beetle d videoed them under the microscope.
I began to focus on the colours and geometric sha butterfly wings and insect eyes. This led me to cr
apes that naturally occur on the beetle shells, reate pieces for bags and jewellery.
I wanted to recreate the clear bag trend by maki ent fabrics and plastics that are currently used different techniques on mirror, perspex, card and
ing them more interesting than just the transpard. I experimented with the laser cutter, trying d paper.
After several difficulties with the mirror I mov solely use plastics I began to print onto leathe and metallics as well as experimenting with foi
ved on to use mirrored perspex. As I didn’t want it er, using interesting pigments such as opaques ils.
I used a mixture of handdrawn and digitally ren push it further with a wider range of insect dra with laser cutting leather as well as embossing
ndered images to create my work. I would like to awings and geometric patterns. I shall experiment into the surface.
I would like to explore engraving different type pearlescent pieces. After trying out foiling and then rub foils on top. I would like to see what h heat bond them onto fabric.
