Crepuscular
Crepuscular
This project is based on the insects that come out at twilight. The insects we fear and have nightmare about. And how beautiful and unique they truly are, Translating these fascinating creatures into knit samples, for luxury woman clothing, a market that wants fabrics that are alternative and usual.
Crepuscular
Taking traditional methods and using them in a more experimental way, such as embedding glow in the dark elements to represent the reflective shells on beetles. As well as trapping little stones in wire to hind away the little details the stones have on them to represent the insects hiding away from predators.
Illuminating
Illuminating
Illuminating is dedicate, elegant and fluorescent use in floras. Looking at how a flower can be light and flexible but at the same time is strong enough to keep it shape and adapted to its environment. This project was aimed at women’s clothing for high street. As I imagine the woman in this market are free spirited, sophisticated and feminine. Just like the flowers I sketch and design with.
Illuminating Analysing how I can portray soft and strong I thought it would easier to contrast the samples. Using Angelina foils to give a lovely range of colours whilst embedding perplex shapes in between the knit and foil. Creating an open structure using wire to give the sample movement and making the striking colour less harsh and more dedicate by the use of devore using soft charcoal wool. Lastly creating an open knit structure but using a heated transfer method to gain the soft pastel colours from my sketch work.

June 2013- May 2014 Design Intern student Work PLacement- Visage Limited
Salford Creating new trends for future seasons bespoke to set retail accounts such as Asda, Aldi and Mark &Spencer’s. I worked on Home fashion and then moved onto M&S Jackets team bringing new commercial ideas to the team and developing them into collections. Liaising with colleagues I analyse colour indictors and trends to cost structure for customer presentations when my designs are presented. I regularly compose competitive shop reports on various home textiles products and jackets styles. Researching through visits to high street stores and Internet sites. I attended new training exchanges, which help me massively in my development.
July 2010- August 2011 Assistant Seamstress- Chuan Design Company
Manchester Duties included arranging appointments for client’s visits, ensuring clients were relaxed during fittings and informed of alternations needed on the garment. Often making recommendations to clients was required during the construction. I worked with a range of industrial sewing machines and learnt how to pattern cut with the guidance of my manger with the client brief in focus. When garments were altered/created I checked the brief and product prior to submitting the item to the client seeking advice if necessary. The role really helped me with my college work, to construct my own final piece and allowed me to gain commercial awareness.
December 2009- February 2010 Sales Assistant- Dune Shoe Store
The Trafford Centre Responsible for shoes and floor supervise, ensuring all customers felt welcomed and treated well in store. Working to targets and challenge was a task I particularly enjoyed and found challenging with good rewards. This job was a Christmas and January sale position and I mastered the role quickly with little training. Replenishment of stock from deliveries to shelf and was flexible to the business needs, working additional hours at short notice. I was given training to aid security in a busy fast moving retail store with a high customer turnover.
