Fairytale COMPENDIUM The fairytale compendium explores techniques and processes to form interesting patterns and surfaces. My practise focuses on manipulating hand-made knitted fabric and forming unusual knit structures aiming to produce innovative textile pieces. I am inspired by Haute Couture and Avant Garde fashion and concentrate my research and market in these areas. This particular project is influenced by designers such as Alessandra Rich and Notte by Marchessa and takes inspiration from successfull knit designers like Lois Albinson and two designers Caroline Rohner and Inna Stein who collaborated to form Steinrohner. The work included in this sample book includes a recent project that explores a fairytale in three different ways. The pathways contrast highly in colour and use slightly different techniques. These techniques were explored, trial and tested to help towards the final major project. This project will inform the final major project which will be completed May 2015.

WINTER FAIRYTALE The winter fairytale uses white and blue natural and synthetic yarns to form these knitted fabrics. The samples are created using fabric manipulation and free hand stitch to form pleats. The fabrics produced were designed for sections of haute couture dresses which is shown through fashion illustrations.

GoTHIC FAIRYTALE The gothic fairytale focuses on texture and unusual structure taking influence from chunky knitted fabrics. As well as forming thick textures, gothic fairytale experiments with open structures using fabric manipulation. The yarns used are deep navys with a dash of shimmery blue, adding elegance to the designs for evening wear.

MYSTICAL FAIRYTALE The mystical fairytale is inspired by mystical creatures and fantasy. Mermaids and unicorns were the biggest influence using pale pastels and turquoise. Samples were knitted using monofilament to form better shape, creating ruffles. As well as experimenting with different yarns, processes were also explored such as felting and hand sewing which will contribute towards final major project.
