SARAH CAROLINE THOMPSON - SS/15 - BioDynamic Accessories Concept Statement BioDynamic is a trend inspired by the patterns formed within the foam created in a carwash. This was the motivation for looking into natural occurring pattern, progressing into a theme by exploring, in detail, cells and organisms for inspiration. Natural sketches and colour work inspire hybrid abstract cell structures, repeated into prints combining elements of scientific research and bio-mimicry. Detailed design information was compiled looking at vegetables under a microscope and manipulated using a variety of CAD packages such as live tracing and digitally drawing into Illustrator. AVA was utilised to create repeated patterns. These fabrics are designed for the accessories market for the Spring Summer 2015 season, with the focus ultimately on a printed scarf collection. Furthermore, the designs are printed on fine, durable fabrics as these scarves are fashion statements rather than for the purpose of warmth. The collection is mostly hand – printed and combines features such as silkscreen printing with flock and foil with some discharged digital printing and laser cutting. This experimental style of printing is very subjective, often resulting in outcomes that are unexpected and unique. This Press Pack shows a synopsis of my work, encapsulating the ideas investigated and some development stages as well as finalised samples.
