ABOUT THE ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANY The Royal Shakespeare Company creates theatre at its best, made in Stratford-upon-Avon and shared around the world. We produce an inspirational artistic programme each year, setting Shakespeare in context, alongside the work of his contemporaries and today’s writers. We have trained generations of the very best theatre makers and we continue to nurture the talent of the future. We encourage everyone to enjoy a lifelong relationship with Shakespeare and live theatre. We reach 530,000 children and young people annually through our education work, transforming their experiences in the classroom, in performance and online. Everyone at the RSC - from actors to armourers, musicians to technicians - plays a part in creating the world you see on stage. We recognise the climate emergency and work hard to embed environmental sustainability into our operations, creative work and business practice and have made a commitment to reduce continually our Carbon Footprint. We have measures already in place from green electricity to replace energy consuming equipment with high efficiency, using low carbon equipment, and delivering programmes to raise environmental awareness across the RSC. We acknowledge that sharing our work with audiences across the world will involve travel and that we need to mitigate the impact of that on our carbon footprint. ABOUT THE YOUNG VIC Based on The Cut in London’s Waterloo, we produce new plays, classics, musicals, adaptations of books, short films, digital projects and game-changing forms of theatre, attracting large audiences from many different backgrounds. We forge deep connections in our neighbourhood through our Taking Part programme, where we engage with over 15,000 people every year via a wide range of projects, from skills-based workshops to on-stage performances. We give 10% of our tickets free to schools and neighbours, irrespective of box office demand, and we are committed to keeping all ticket prices low. Our Directors Program, the only scheme of its kind, has been running for nearly twenty years and offers young directors a unique opportunity to develop their craft through skills workshops, peer-led projects, paid assistant directing roles through the Genesis Fellow, the Jerwood Assistant Director Program and the Boris Karloff Trainee Assistant Director Program, as well as access to the Genesis Directors Network. Twice a year, the recipient of the Genesis Future Directors Award directs a show in The Clare theatre at the Young Vic with full support from the Young Vic’s creative, administrative and production teams, enabling us to support and nurture an emerging director as a part of the Young Vic programme. For many years, the Young Vic has been synonymous with inclusivity, accessibility and creativity. We catalyse debate and channel our work into the digital world, to reach new audiences and continue conversations outside of our four walls. We foster emerging talent and collaborate with some of the world’s finest directors, performers and creatives; creating award-winning productions which engage with the world we live in. ABOUT THEATRE FOR A NEW AUDIENCE Founded in 1979 by Jeffrey Horowitz, Theatre for a New Audience is a modern classical theatre that produces Shakespeare alongside major classic and contemporary plays with some of today’s most exciting artists. TFANA mounts four to five productions each year that illuminate the contemporary significance of classic plays and modern dramatic masterworks, serving an audience of 30,000 to 50,000 each season. In addition to its world-class productions, TFANA engages its community through free Humanities Programs for general audiences, extensive creative development opportunities for artists, and the largest in-depth arts in education programs to introduce Shakespeare and classic drama to New York City Public School students across the five boroughs. Additionally, TFANA is committed to building a vibrant and diverse young audience through its New Deal program, which offers $20 tickets to patrons aged 30 or under and all full-time students. Since its founding, TFANA has produced nearly 90 masterworks including 33 of Shakespeare’s 38 plays. It has grown to become the second largest theatre dedicated to Shakespeare in New York and the sixth largest in the United States. It has earned an international reputation for innovation and excellence through its acclaimed productions that have received numerous nominations and awards, including the Drama Desk, Obie, Drama League, Outer Critics Circle, Lucille Lortel and the Tony. In 2001, Theatre for a New Audience became the first American theatre company invited to perform Shakespeare at the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in Stratford-upon-Avon. Its production of Cymbeline, directed by Bartlett Sher, led to ongoing artistic dialogue and exchange; in 2007, TFANA was invited to return to the RSC with its production of The Merchant of Venice, directed by Darko Tresnjak and starring Academy Award-winner F. Murray Abraham. Other partnerships include co-productions with American Repertory Theater, Baryshnikov Arts Center, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, C.I.C.T./Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, Houston’s Alley Theatre, New York City Players, New York Theatre Workshop, The Public Theater, Shakespeare’s Globe in London and Soho Rep. Theatre for a New Audience has built associations with some of the theatre’s finest artists, including César Alvarez, Arin Arbus, Sarah Benson, Michael Boyd, Peter Brook, Lileana Blain-Cruz, Simon Godwin, Elliot Goldenthal, Andre Gregory, Riccardo Hernandez, Mimi Lien, Trevor Nunn, Bartlett Sher, Julie Taymor, Awoye Timpo, Darko Tresnjak, Kate Whoriskey, Robert Woodruff and Evan Yionoulis; leading contemporary playwrights Samuel Beckett, Edward Bond, Howard Brenton, Maria Irene Fornes, David Greig, Branden JacobsJenkins, Adrienne Kennedy, Suzan-Lori Parks, Wallace Shawn, and Jackie Sibblies Drury; and distinguished actors such as F. Murray Abraham, Christian Camargo, Bill Camp, Kathryn Hunter, Kecia Lewis, Elizabeth Marvel, Kristine Nielsen, Juliet Rylance, Mark Rylance, John Turturro, Michael Shannon, John Douglas Thompson, and Mary Wiseman. Since the opening of Polonsky Shakespeare Center in fall 2013, TFANA has mounted 28 productions including many American, New York and World Premieres, and served a diverse audience of more than 260,000.
