Welcome to Tudor Grange Primary Academy St James Dear Parents or Guardians, We would like to offer you a warm welcome to Tudor Grange Primary Academy St James and look forward to the beginning of a positive partnership between the academy and your family. The academy opened in January 2013 and is sponsored by the outstanding Tudor Grange Academy, Solihull. As modelled by the sponsor, we strive for excellence in all we do, ensuring that we meet the differing needs of children in our care. “Within a caring Christian ethos, Tudor Grange Primary Academy St James aims to provide a safe and happy environment which allows every child the opportunity to fulfill their potential and make a valuable contribution to the academy and the wider community�. The Curriculum A high priority is placed on teaching the core elements of the curriculum-English, Mathematics, and Science. This is very structured and all pupils study the core subjects at the same time. The foundation curriculum is taught thematically where pupils experience a stimulating and enjoyable curriculum enhanced by trips and visits. The partnership with Tudor Grange Academy Solihull enables specialists to deliver specific elements of the curriculum as well as taking the lead in French, Physical Education and Coding.

Enrichment Activities There are a wide range of enrichment activities for all pupils to participate in. A programme of events is published on a termly basis and includes; art class, singing and dance class and seasonal sports clubs.

The local community The accessibility of the academy allows the pupils the opportunity to explore their local community. Half termly services held at St James Church are one of the highlights on the school calendar. Other visits to Stratford, Warwick and Birmingham support a hands on approach to learning.



Healthy School We encourage pupils to appreciate the benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle. The pupils enjoy a balanced programme of sporting activities including rugby, football, cricket, athletics, gymnastics, dance and swimming. Cycling proficiency is delivered to pupils in years 5 and 6 and we encourage all pupils to participate. All pupils have the opportunity to participate in Forest School learning by exploring the woodland and developing key skills such as independence, team building and problem solving. Freshly cooked meals are prepared and cooked on site in the school kitchen. The Executive Catering Manager organizes and oversees the quality of meals, ensuring that children are offered a balanced and healthy diet and a three week menu is posted to all parents.

Home School Communication It is important that your child is happy at school. If you have any concerns you can contact the school at any time during the school day. The Head of School will try to see parents immediately if there is an urgent concern, or an appointment can be made between 1.00pm and 3.00pm on Tuesdays. The academy will provide you with general information through a monthly newsletter, parental letters and through published information on the school website. The Academy Day It is important that your child is prompt for the start of the school day and in the playground when the bell rings. The school day starts at 8.45 am and pupils arriving after this time will be denoted in the register as late. A member of staff is on duty in the playground from 8.35 am. If any child arrives before this time parents must be responsible for their child. 8.45 Registration 8.50 Assembly 9.10 First morning session 10.15 - 10.30 KS1 break 10.30 - 10.45 KS2 Break Second morning session 12.00 - 12.45 KS1 Lunch 12.25 - 1.00 KS2 Lunch Afternoon sessions 3.00 End of school day If parents or others collecting children at the end of the school day are delayed, pupils are instructed to report to the reception and wait there until collected.

Wrap Around provision Provision is available for all children from 7.30am to 6.00pm seperate information is available if you are interested in the provision and all bookings are overseen by the school office.



Attendance Pupils are expected to be punctual and regular in attendance. All children must be in the playground when the bell rings. The day starts at 8.45 am and a member of staff is on duty in the playground from 8.30am. If any child arrives before this time parents must be responsible for their child. The school day finishes at 3.00pm. If parents or others collecting children at the end of the day are delayed, children are instructed to report to the main reception and wait until collected.

Absence If you child is absent please can you notify the school as soon as possible on the first day of absence, but no later than 11.00 am. This will need to be followed up by a letter when your child returns to enable the school to authorize the absence. If your child needs to attend a medical appointment or requires a leave of absence please can you request this in writing, in advance. Taking holidays during term time is no longer permitted and will not be authorised.
