Creating catalogues in a digital world

Let's talk about

Do catalogues have a place in the digital world?

It’s true that some clients are printing fewer copies than years ago but for most they still remain part of a multi-channel customer experience. For particular B2B clients catalogues remain a vital tool in getting products in front of the customers, aligning their stocking strategies, sales & merchandising plans and often to sell preferred supplier products. Research has shown that they appeal across ages. It also shows uptake and conversion rates can be positively affected by social media, driving requests for catalogues. Digital and printed worlds can co-exist. ●

On–line versions of the catalogue can be connected

to websites and e-commerce channels.

Time sensitive offers and new products are often

showcased separately with promotional flyers, e-marketing or social media.

The devil is in the detail We are highly flexible and experienced in designing and building catalogues and information directories. Catalogues contain significant amounts of content which require scrupulous attention to detail. The aim of any catalogue or directory is to set the layout so that customers can view products and pricing with great readability and is user-friendly. Organising both the product information and images for layout creation is critical. A skillset that involves content creation, careful numbering and design of master pages. We often design icons and symbols to improve navigation as well as smarter section dividers as options for page templates.

Catalogue Specialists One of our clients is the hugely successful, trade only plumbing and heating company Williams & Co. They have 38 branches, regional fulfilment centres all across the UK and a comprehensive e-commerce site. The Williams Pricebusters catalogue provides full listings of price sensitive products. They produce this catalogue every 3 months. As a result of supplier deals the final content and prices are often supplied only one or two days before sign off to print. Our systems and templates mean we can cope with such tight deadlines. This 140 page catalogue is printed and mailed directly to customers as well as being readily available in their branches.

Pricebusters Extra & Highlights Pricebusters Extra & Highlights are used tactically to elevate the information of the catalogues and respond to price changes via a mini brochure. Both are regularly produced within a few days.

The Collection Williams & Co also produce catalogues for high-end products. These 80 page catalogues extend their target audience to include designers, architects and those specifying particular ranges or items. The Radiator and Bathroom Collection catalogues are part of the same family. They have been designed as siblings.

Plant Heritage This client is the world's leading garden plant conservation and research charity. They carry out vital work across the UK with a clear aim of conserving the diversity of garden plants. They are governed by a board of trustees that include consultative committees, panels and working groups including the patron, HRH The Prince of Wales. We design their Quarterly Journal 160 page annual, Directory and Impact Report.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you. It’s only taken two weeks, very few emails and the reassurance of knowing we are in excellent hands.” Clare Hogan, Editor, Plant Heritage

Creating headlines worldwide Established in 1965, Trendco is one of the UK's largest suppliers of wigs and hairpieces with a reputation for excellence in the hair loss industry. With a head office in Brighton they supply products across the UK & Ireland as well as through their retail salons in London, Hove, Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester and Nottingham supplying. Trendco are one of our newer catalogue clients. With the first design and print of Hi-Fashion catalogue, we have developed our relationship and trust so we now design and print all their UK catalogues, these range in size but are usually 24 pages with a 4 page cover.

“Working with The Graphic Design House was a seamless experience. The project was mapped out in a streamlined way which meant we were able to hit our strict deadlines with a brochure that exceeded our expectations in both design and print quality! The team always think about the brief, advancing our own ideas to a whole new level! Bradley Webber, Sales & Marketing Manager Trendco

Digital Transformation Technology is part of our daily lives. Consumers now expect to access information when they want, from wherever they are. The lines between what we do online and offline are blurred. Cross promotion means the catalogue is interwoven into many marketing aspects from social, website to more traditional media as well as bricks and mortar. The power of the catalogue remains. It still provides a tactile tangible resource which prompts digital action.
