Understanding Zipping:

We stock two types of zip either Moulded or Coil (Spiral) both are available in different styles, colours and finishes to provide a solution for your application. On both options all teeth are formed onto a polyester tape with some UV inhibitors applied, although if left in direct sunlight the teeth and zip tape may discolour.

Coil Zipping:

Coil or Spiral zipping is available in Number 3, Number 5 and Number 10 sizing. Coil zipping would be preferred in Upholstery or areas of tight radius, the spiral zips tends to form around corners easier than the moulded plastic. Coil zipping is also designed with a waterresistant coating and is available in 7 colours.

Both options are available in Continuous or open ended options.

Use No. 5 or No. 10 Coil Zip for Bags, Cushions and Tight Corners. Use No. 5 or No. 10 Moulded Plastic for Marine Bags and Cushions.

Moulded Zipping:

Moulded zips are Polyacetal teeth on Polyester tape with two sizes, number 5 (6mm) and Number 10 (8.6mm) available. Use number 5 for smaller lighter applications, bags, cushions and attachments, upgrade to number 10 where higher strength is required. Continuous is supplied by the metre up to 100m rolls, this is usable where the zip isn’t required to separate completely and can be supplied with a range of puller options. Open Ended is whereby both parts of the tape are able to be separated completely such as found on a coat jacket zip. This is required where panels need to be separated and reattached. Open ended zips come supplied as standard with a double metal puller, and are currently sold in a variety of lengths from 1” (30cm) up to 60ft (18.28m) Open Ended zips can be cut down to size at the top end utilising one of the many zip stop options to finish the zipper as required.

Use No. 10 Moulded Plastic for general canopy, cover and marquee work. Use No. 15 Moulded Plastic for greater strength.

Assembly instructions for stoppers

Plastic Top Stops for moulded zipper: Place top stop on zipper’s tooth with opening facing you, snap in and twist.

Ring Top Stop for moulded zipper: Place the ring Top Stop on the zipper tooth, tighten with pliers until the stop is snapped into the zipper’s tooth. Prong Bottom Stop for moulded zipper: Place the stopper tips on both zipper tapes right under last zipper teeth, push stopper until its tips penetrate the zipper tapes, tighten with pliers.

Standard Prong Bottom Stop for coil zipper: Same as for moulded zipper.

Standard Top Stop for moulded zipper: Place stopper above the first tooth, tighten with pliers until stopper catches into the zipper’s tape.

Butterfly Bottom Stop for moulded zipper: Insert stopper between the zipper’s tapes right under the last zipper teeth and tighten with pliers. Standard Top Stop for coil zipper: Place stopper on zipper tapes right above the first zipper teeth, tighten stopper with pliers into the zipper tape.
