Blue House Booksellers Anni Caporuscio has many hobbies. Reading a good book and indulging in a piping hot cup of coffee are two of them. Ironically, she also supplies the islandÂšs East Side with both â&#x20AC;š coffee and books. Caporuscio is a co-owner of Small Town Coffee Co. and the owner of Blue House Booksellers, one of just two bookstores on Kauai. For the ďŹ rst two years, Blue House occupied an extra room â&#x20AC;š more like a storage area â&#x20AC;š inside Small Town. But in August, Caporuscio gave it a serious upgrade,

moving it to a 720-square-foot location on the second ďŹ&#x201A;oor of the Dragon Building in Old Kapaa Town. So far, business has been good. IÂšve got new books coming in all the time, she said. WeÂšre trying to expand into not just books, but locally made stuff. Today, there are woven baskets, candles, artwork, postcards, book bags and much more. Her latest call to action is to local musicians. Something that I want to get into is selling CDs, she said. You can tell your people, we sell our CDs at Blue House. Today, coffee and books are kept at a distance, separated by a half mile of Kuhio Highway. ThatÂšs OK, says Caporuscio, because while books are paper-based, coffee tends to be extremely wet, and a myriad of things can go wrong. While the new location doesnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t come with the delicious smell of coffee and scones, it does offer a variety of new releases, Kauai authors, guidebooks, beach reads, classics, childrenÂšs books and art supplies. For those looking for something with a little extra punch, Blue House is home to sections

While others may say that a used book store is a dying breed, Caporuscio believes a community book store serves a larger purpose. In addition to sales, Blue House now hosts Kids Reading Hour from 10 to 11 a.m. every Wednesday. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s real cute, Caporuscio said. The kids mimic each other when it comes to reading. As for future plans, she is shooting for a second writing class, an art class, an adult reading hour, literacy events and book clubs.
