Aloha, On behalf of the Board of Directors, welcome to Kauaì Hospice’s 28th Annual Concert in the Sky 4th of July celebration! It’s all in the òhana when it comes to celebrating on Kauaì!

Today celebrates the 28th year for our Annual Concert in the Sky! I am so happy you chose to spend your time with us. We are pleased to be able to bring you this community event and truly appreciate your commitment to Kauaì Hospice. Your presence today helps to support the important work of our organization. The mission of Kauaì Hospice is to ensure the highest quality of life possible for individuals and their families facing a life-threatening illness; to provide bereavement support to individuals, and to promote an understanding of Hospice and Palliative Care services. It’s called Kauaì Hospice’s special kind of caring. Thank you to all of our sponsors, entertainers, volunteers, and staff for their unyielding support and hard work in presenting this July 4th celebration. Kauai Country Western Dance Group has been around since the mid 1990’s. Lead by Jeffrey Callejo Jr. we showcase a few dances and then teach the audience the steps.

Entertainment Kapena

Kapena, considered to be one of Hawaii’s premier island bands has more than 20 Island Music CD’s to their credit. Although the band has been through some changes, its founding member, Kelly Boy De Lima is still the band leader. Kapena continues to be an institution that embraces what islanders fell in love with when fans first heard the unique sound of their “electrifying” Kapena music.

Born and raised on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, Shar Carillo started singing at the very young age of seven. She recorded her first song at the age of 17 and by the age of 23, taught herself to play the guitar and started writing her own music.

Shar Carillo released her first EP “Letting Go” in 2012, which led to three nominations at the 2013 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. She released three more singles, all of which were played on local radio stations, Guam, New Zealand, Japan, etc. Forming her own band in 2012, Shar Carillo gained exposure mainly through weekly performances at local venues. She covers a variety of music from pop, reggae, hip-hop and

R&B. Most notably, Shar has opened up for national artists such as Kat Dahlia, Magic, Shaggy, apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas, and most recently UB40 and Kenny Loggins. Shar Carillo just released her second EP “Taste of My Love” in December 2016. She has over 20,000 followers on Facebook and +100K video views on YouTube. Founded in 1983 by a small group of dedicated and passionate volunteers, Kaua‘i Hospice has developed into a professionally staffed, Medicare and Medicaid certified organization with a supportive cadre of 80 specially trained program volunteers and hundreds of general community volunteers. There is a fundamental belief that hospice is not about how you die, it’s about how you live. Kaua‘i Hospice is the only hospice care provider on the Garden Island. Kaua‘i Hospice is respected, wellknown and has a sterling reputation from more than 30 years in our community, and we want to reframe the way we open people’s minds to who we are and what we do. When you select Kaua‘i Hospice, the focus of medical care shifts from searching for a cure to providing expert pain and symptom management. This special kind of care enables you to enjoy the best quality of life possible during this time.

The earlier you call, the more we can do to help. Many people believe that hospice care is unavailable or inappropriate until the last days of a person’s life and that’s simply not true. A great deal can be done many months earlier to improve quality of life. We can provide: • Expert pain and symptom management • Emotional and spiritual support • Assistance in organizing a patient’s personal affairs • Support for the caregiver Each Kaua‘i Hospice patient is under the care of a hospice team composed of professionals who can address not only physical but also emotional, social and spiritual needs of patients and families. Kaua‘i Hospice provides care to anyone medically eligible who requests it, regardless of ability to pay. We can do this thanks to the support and generosity of the Kaua‘i island community we serve.
