Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra

Founded in 2005, the Thailand Phil has become a driving force in Thailand’s musical scene, promoting orchestral music and education. In its first 20 seasons, the orchestra has gained worldwide recognition for its performances of classical masterworks and its dedication to premiering new compositions, with a strong emphasis on works by Thai composers. In 2022, the Thailand Phil made history as the first Thai orchestra to tour Europe, receiving standing ovations in Budapest, Ljubljana, and Wrocław. The orchestra has also performed throughout Thailand, Southeast Asia, Japan, and New Zealand. The Thailand Phil operates in close partnership with Mahidol University College of Music, with a mission to set a standard of excellence through world-class concerts and educational initiatives. The orchestra has performed with renowned conductors and soloists, including Kahchun Wong, Carl St.Clair, Sergei Nakariakov, and Boston Brass, broadening its international presence with tours across Asia, New Zealand, and Europe. The orchestra’s home is the 2,000-seat Prince Mahidol Hall at Mahidol University’s College of Music in Bangkok, where concertgoers enjoy lush surroundings and serene gardens. Each year, the Thailand Phil presents over forty concerts in this state-of-the-art venue, along with additional performances throughout Bangkok. Entering its 20th season, the Thailand Phil has established itself as a musical leader in Thailand and Southeast Asia. Guided first by Founding Chief Conductor Gudni Emilsson and then by Maestro Alfonso Scarano, who led the orchestra’s first European tour, the Thailand Phil has also recorded several acclaimed albums. Looking ahead, the Thailand Phil remains committed to advancing classical music in Thailand, aiming to stay connected with audiences while offering world-class concert experiences to inspire the community.
