5. THE CLIMATES OF SPAIN - Spain has mainly climate temperate.

- There are several factors that produce a climatic precipitation: 1. LATITUDE: It influences temperature, which arelower as we go North.

It influences precipitation, which is greater at higher laitudes.

2. ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE: Atlantic depressions carry rain across the Iberian Peninsula from West to East. (there is higher precipitation in the West than in the East) The Azores anticyclone causes: - dry, sunny weather in summer - in winter it movves South and polar winds enter the Peninsula 3. ALTITUDE: Causes temperature to fall and precipitaion to increase in mountain areas.

4. DISTANCE FROM THE SEA: The mountain ranges that surround the Central Plateau form a barrier against the influence of the sea.

Temperatures are milder near the coast and more exreme inland Precipitation is greater near the coast than in central Spain

5. CLIMATE OF SPAIN -

OCEANIC CLIMATE It is in he north and north-west of the Peninsula.

Precipitacion is abundant and regular all year round.( more han 800 mm annually) Temperatures are mild in winter and cool in summer (They are influenced by the sea) MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATE It is in the rest of the Peninsula, but there are three varieties: 1. In COASTAL REGIONS: - it is dry in the summer - moderate rainfall i spring and autumn - Temperatures are mild in winter and high in summer.

2. INLAND: - There is a marked difference between hot summers and cold winters.

3. SEMI-ARID: - Temperatures are similar to he Mediterranean coast - Precipitation is less tnah 350 mm annuallly

SUBTROPICAL CLIMATE It is in he Canary Islands, (because are close to the Tropic of Cancer) Temperatures are mild all year round Precipitation is scarce HIGH MOUNTAIN CLIMATE It is found in the highest mountain ranges.

Temperaures are lower than in the rest of Spain Average preciitation is over 1,500 mm annually
