5. TRADITIONAL AGRICULTURE - Traditional subsistence agriculture is considered environmentally frendly because i maintains a balance between the land’s physical condiions and natural resources. - Features: - It is common in less-developed countries. - Rudimentary techniques and tools are used - It is labour intensive - There is limited production, enough for consumption. - Surplus or extra products (excedente)are sold at local markets. - Areas are organised in small plots under private or communal ownership - Polyculture is the usual type of farming


5. TRADITIONAL AGRICULTURE AGRICULTURAL METHODS AND TECHNIQUES 1.

Agricultural or slash-and-burn cultivation (Agricultura itinerante sobre cenizas o de rozas) - It is used on very poor soil in tropical areas. - It requires large expanses of land. - Fours Steps: - Clearing: A forested area is cleared. - Burning: Vegetation s burnt and the land is ploughed o incorporate the ashes, which are the fertiliser. - Planting: Several crops are planted (millet, corn‌.) - Fallow: the forest naturally takes over the abandoned space, which lies fallow.
