Stretching for a Cure in support of Mount Sinai Hospital
“…we are working on ground breaking discoveries that will help identify those at risk for cancer and find effective treatments that reduce the spread and recurrence of breast cancer. Your participation in today’s event makes this research possible.” Andrew Seto, PHD student at the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute
Close to 400 Yoga and Zumba® fitness enthusiasts stretched and danced together as one, at the Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex on Sunday, April 10, 2011 for the third annual Yoga in Motion™ event. This year, the event raised $190,000 for breast cancer research at the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute of Mount Sinai Hospital. Guests gathered for the opening ceremonies, where emcee Jacqui Delaney, SUN TV Host of SUN News Network, welcomed participants and guests. Some of the notable guests included Yoga in Motion™ Ambassador and breast cancer survivor, Dr. Marla Shapiro who spoke about her personal journey and battle against breast cancer, and 2
Team Kula, one of the top fundraising teams
PHD student at the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute, Andrew Seto. Andrew spoke of his work in breast cancer research and the wonderful team of scientists at the Lunenfeld. “The hospital has not only accrued an amazing team of scientists who provide direction and innovation, but they have gathered bright young minds who are being trained and are involved in the research,” Andrew said. “Working together, we are working on ground breaking discoveries that will help identify those at risk for cancer and find effective treatments that reduce the spread and recurrence of breast cancer. Your participation in today’s event makes this research possible.” The full-day fitness marathon was led by top yoga and Zumba® instructors from some of the city’s most popular studios. Guests shopped in the vendor market place in between fitness sessions
for one-of-a-kind products, free manicures and free food samples. The Auxiliary’s heartfelt appreciation goes to media partners Global Toronto, Toronto Sun, 24Hrs and Chum FM 104.5 for the fantastic media promotion, to Rewards Sponsor Ecojot and Samuel Kleinberg Jewellers for their support. The event would not have been possible with out the support of a fantastic committee, led by Vice President, Stacey Barish, event co-chairs, Lauren Baker and Jordan Nahmias; and of course, the hundreds of participants that made the dedicated effort of raising money for breast cancer research at Mount Sinai. Congratulations to all the participants including to top fundraisers Lisa Colt and Stacey Barish, along with top teams Flying Lotus and Team Kula.

The eZone brought out the big kid in everyone—with games of whirly ball, basketball, laser tag, and mini cosmic bowling. During the reception event co-chair, Ashley Steinhauer spoke about this exciting new initiative for Mount Sinai Hospital. “Future Sinai will engage a new generation of philanthropists who want to give back to their community at a young age. Through fundraising events and programs, Future Sinai will connect members, generate new ideas and raise funds to contribute to the future growth of Mount Sinai Hospital.”
