I’m planning to list my house as soon as the winter is over.
What advice can you provide so that I can “be prepared”?
Getting ready to sell your home can feel a little overwhelming so it’s best to start the process well before your plan to list it. During the winter months, you can start on the inside so when the snow starts to melt and the nicer weather arrives you will be ready to focus on the outside. Start the process of decluttering, get into closets, drawers, cabinets and cupboards. Pack the things you’re going to keep and put them neatly in storage, decide what you’re going to donate or sell and remove those items from the home, it can be quite liberating! Painting the walls a neutral colour will help buyers to envision themselves in the home, you might love that turquoise accent wall but if the buyer hates it, it can be a turnoff. If you’re not going to be doing a full paint job, pay special attention to any scuffs marks, dings or damage to walls, baseboards and trim and touch those up. Take a close look at all the handles and fix any that are loose or replace older hardware with more modern versions. Buyers notice the little things, you want your home to look well cared for, a loose handle or a missing light bulb can make a buyer stop and think there might be other more serious defects. Also very important is clean, clean and clean some more! Make sure all areas of your home are spotless, get in the corners and behind furniture, window frames, baseboards and especially the kitchen and bathroom and make everything shine. The future of interest rates is a favourite topic of discussion among economists and the general public. Mortgage rates are dependent on bond yields, and influenced by both foreign and domestic economic conditions and therefore very difficult to predict. Being raised in a business-minded family, Thamara was always making a business, even from a very young age. In 2015 Thamara obtained her real estate license and began building her real estate business at Provincial Realty. She knew immediately that this career was a great way to combine her love for helping people and her business passion. When passions can come together so perfectly and you get to spend your days doing things you are good at, that’s a great feeling of accomplishment. Thamara’s warm personality, her genuine care for others and her deep rooted business sense makes her a great agent. She takes the time to really understand her clients and their unique needs and then she gets to work, ensuring that their goals are met. In a few short years, Thamara has become a premiere agent on PEI and continues to grow! She loves working with all kinds of clients, buyers and sellers, local Islanders and newcomers, the young and the young at heart. Thamara begins her days at 6:45AM with a large cup of coffee. There are lunches to be packed and kids to get out the door for school. Then her focus shifts to her clients. Everyday is different in the real estate business and Thamara loves the variety. Some days go smooth and others...don’t. Thamara recalls one day when she drove for two hours to show a home to some clients. Just two miles before arriving at the house, her car gets stuck in the mud. There are no other homes around, so a determined Thamara begins to walk the 2 miles to the home. It’s a good thing a good agent is always prepared! There was lots more mud and in some places, the snow was three feet deep. Final-

Thamara balances her work life with her other passions. She dedicates time to volunteering in the community; helping with Healthy Snacks at her kid’s school and being involved with 100 Women who Care. She loves photography. She also enjoys taking time to manage her own portfolio of investment properties. To relax, Thamara loves hanging out with her friends and family, sitting around a bonfire, long days at the beach, visiting the Farmer’s Market and taking walks on the Confederation Trail. Thamara has some advice for homeowners who are thinking about selling this spring. “Start now! Pack away extra items into storage and apply a fresh coat of neutral paint in your home. Carefully clean trim and windows. Invite some friends to “Inspect” your home and offer you an objective critique. They may notice something that you would never see.
