Closing Remarks & Awards Ceremony

Thank you for joining us for our local Eastern Los Angeles Journalism Education Association (ELAJEA) regional write-off competition. Winners from today's competition will move on to the Southern California (SCJEA) Write-Offs at Fullerton College on March 14. Scholarship opportunities are available for students in all grades, but please refer to socaljea.org for additional information and application forms. There is also a national convention in Nashville on April 16-18, but there is no pre-qualification necessary to compete at the national convention. There are workshops, keynote speakers and networking opportunities available at the national convention. Additional information about the convention is onIine at studentpress.org/nspa. Advisers looking for opportunities to get involved are encouraged to attend the next SCJEA membership meeting on March 14 at Fullerton College. The Journalism Education Association is the largest scholastic journalism organization for teachers and advisers. Put simply, we educate teachers on how to educate students. We fulfill this goal through numerous activities: We provide training around the country at national conventions and institutes. We offer national certification for teaching high school journalism. We publish print and online resources on the latest trends in journalism education. We provide avenues for virtual discussion among teachers, as well as communities and mentoring to learn best practices. We monitor and actively defend First Amendment and scholastic press rights issues across the country. Among JEA's more than 2500 members are journalism teachers and publications advisers, media professionals, press associations, adviser organizations, libraries, publishing companies, newspapers, and radio stations and departments of journalism. JEA is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization. Since 1924, JEA has been leading the way in scholastic journalism and media education. If you have any questions about today's event, SCJEA or the national JEA/NSPA convention in Los Angeles, please contact the ELAJEA President, Adriana Guzman, from Los Altos High School by e-mail at areyes@hlpusd.kl2.ca.us or at the organization email at elajea8@gmail.com. Good luck to everyone and enjoy the event!
