Regional update

As we approach the thanksgiving holidays the EIC Houston team is especially thankful to our members and

has thoroughly enjoyed their unyielding support, joining our EIC LIVE e-vents, reaching out to say hello,

Amanda Duhon

our advisory board for volunteering its time to our not-for-profit initiatives, and the one-team approach of the EIC as a whole during the latest delivery of the Virtual Energy Exports Conference 2020.

This fall we began a series of US wind sector webinars, starting with a comprehensive US offshore wind update from our resident expert Lara Juergens on 2 September. The sector continues to grow and we are pushing forward a series of EIC LIVE e-vents across the value chain.

We also examined the impact, challenges and opportunities around the hydrogen sector, and its role in energy transition. On 24 September the EIC joined forces with Lloyd’s Register with close to 450 registered delegates in delivering the EIC LIVE e-vent: Ramping up Hydrogen Potential within the Energy Transition. We were joined by distinguished cross-industry experts Traci Kraus, Director, Government Relations, Cummins and board member of the Hydrogen Council; Jeffrey Reed, PhD, Chief Scientist, Renewable Fuels and Energy Storage, University of California, Irvine; Matthew Blieske, Global Head of Product Development and Engineering, Shell Hydrogen; Beth (Hardy) Valiaho, Vice President, Strategy & Stakeholder Relations, International CCS Knowledge Centre; Nigel Jenvey, Global Head of Carbon Management, Gaffney, Cline & Associates and Olav Hansen, Associate Consultant Hydrogen, Lloyd’s Register. The panellists discussed the requirements for a dynamic roadmap that could serve to provide industry solutions for all energy sectors, yielding synergies across natural gas, renewable energy and carbon capture, utilisation and storage.

vEEC week was amazing, to say the least. The EIC Houston team was delighted to deliver two international trade delegations over the course of the week. On 28 September we took forward the Mexico international delegation and were honoured to be joined by Joel Vladimir Ulloa, Director of International Operations, Cemza; Pedro Enrique Lopez, Commercial Director for North America, Techint; Antonio Villaluenga, Project Manager, Wood; Ricardo Solis, Head of Energy, Department for International Trade (DIT) and Rodrigo Osorio Díaz, Director, Puebla State Energy Agency. The EIC provided an oil and gas market update and DIT provided a power and renewables market update. Remaining panellists provided introductions to their companies, views of market opportunities, highlighted upcoming project updates and provided an insight into working in the region. It is clear that Mexico has opportunities for the supply chain across the energy sector, and there is an eagerness of key players to work with the UK supply chain.

On 30 September we were delighted to welcome Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA). We heard from Wes Jickling, Chief Executive, COSIA; John Brogly, Water Director, COSIA and Kelly Parker, Senior Technical Advisor, COSIA about the innovative approach being taken forward in Canada, and the opportunities available to UK companies to collaborate in Canada.

Finally, we took the decision to postpone EIC Connect Energy USA, now scheduled to take place in Houston on 30 March 2021. Networking and connecting is at the heart of EIC Connect and in consultation with our advisory board we felt it best to postpone until after the anticipated double threat of COVID and seasonal flu.
