Welcome to Summer Studio 2019! Each year, we search for educational offerings that reflect our campers’ varied interests and passions, while also providing them with opportunities to make a difference in the world. This year is no exception. We’re pleased to offer a wide variety of options that will nurture your child’s interests and spark new ones. Classes with innovative, real-world applications allow campers to examine the world through hands-on exploration as they investigate aerodynamics using soapbox cars, study the Mid-Atlantic ecosystem as junior naturalists, and partner with local organizations to make a difference in the lives of those most in need within the community. We are so fortunate to share our beautiful campus, expert teachers, and attentive counselors with both new and returning Summer Studio campers and their families. We hope your child will mix+match different camp offerings to take advantage of the numerous opportunities to grow, have fun, and make new friends along the way. We look forward to seeing you this summer! -Dr. Elinor Scully, Head of The Langley School

Ever wonder what it would be like to MishMash five different camp themes into one week? Campers hop onto our time traveler machine to journey back through time and explore ancient empires around the world. While tombhunting in Egypt, we build pyramids and in ancient Greece, we climb atop the Acropolis. Harry Potter fans delight in the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where we make capes, wands, and hats! If you like making slime, you'll love our Slime Factory. Slime choices include mermaid slime, monster slime, crunchy slime, and starry slime. To end the week, we spend the day creating, covering, designing, and constructing with duct tape!

Take a dash of engineering and a sprinkle of earth science, toss it together with some fun and games, and you have a STEAM-based camp. Our future scientists delve into the different worlds of science as they make a pizza herb garden, explore the Jurassic world, learn about spelunking, and discover physics principles using dominos. Junior Environmental Field Studies

Do you have a keen sense of observation? Come test your deductive reasoning skills as you gather evidence using a GPS interactive device on a secret mission at the Spy Museum, stop a runaway subway train at the Escape Room Live, and uncover the secrets of Georgetown while completing a Watson’s Adventure! Campers use the elements of descriptive writing to reveal their reviews about the covert side of the DC area on Summer Studio’s “Travelog” blog.

Love science and the outdoors? Come join the Junior Environmental Field Studies ecologists as they work collaboratively to investigate the health of local tributaries and rivers. Campers spend time outside, get into nature, ask questions, and learn to develop ways of testing those questions just like an earth or biological scientist would. Throughout the week, campers use scientific equipment and techniques to gather data on air, soil, water, and living things to help support conclusions on the health of our local tributaries. In addition to learning how to scientifically assess the area, campers also develop a greater understanding of and appreciation for the environment around us and how they can better protect these resources.

DEPOSIT & PAYMENT

WAITLIST

To reserve your child’s spot, a non-refundable, non-transferable deposit of $150 per week, per child is due at the time of registration and is deducted from the total amount due. Full payment is due on or before May 1, 2019. If final payment is not received by May 1, the space will be forfeited. After May 1, payment is due in full at the time of registration. A fee of $25 will be charged for any returned checks.

Due to the popularity of many of our classes, waitlists do occur. To place your child on the waitlist, you must register online for the specific class’ waitlist. There is no fee for being on a waiting list, nor is any credit card information required. We cannot take waitlist registrations or hold spots over the phone. As spaces become available, they are filled in the order in which they were registered online.

The Langley School Summer Studio program reserves the right to charge the credit card on file for outstanding balances. Upon completion of your registration, you will receive an e-mail confirmation along with a copy of your statement.

Should a space become available for a waitlisted class, you will be notified via e-mail and/ or telephone to confirm interest in the available spot. If you decide to enroll your child in the available spot, you will need to complete your registration by paying the deposit and/or full payment online (please see our class changes, cancellations, & withdrawals policy). There is no penalty should you choose not to enroll; we will simply notify the next family on the waitlist.

CLASS CHANGES, CANCELLATIONS, & WITHDRAWALS

REQUIRED FORMS

Space permitting, class changes may be made before registration closes for a camp week. A $25 fee will apply to each change in a camper’s schedule, plus the difference in cost between the classes.

Virginia School Health Entrance Form: Campers who do not have this form on file will not be permitted to participate in Summer Studio. If your child attended The Langley School for the 2018-2019 academic year or is a returning camper from the 2016, 2017, or 2018 season, you will NOT need to resubmit this form unless an update has been made.

Parents/guardians must inform the Summer Studio Office in writing if they are withdrawing their child from any class. If a cancellation is made at any time before May 1, 2019, all payments, minus the non-refundable deposit, will be refunded. No refunds will be granted for withdrawals after May 1, 2019. Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable between classes, siblings, and other programs offered by The Langley School. If a class is under-enrolled, Summer Studio reserves the right to cancel the class and a full refund will be granted. Advance notice will be provided in these situations two weeks prior to the start of class, and the Summer Studio team will help families find alternative class options. In cases where the cost of the new class is greater than the class being replaced, the price difference will be charged to the camper. All changes are based on availability and grade requirements.

Proof of Identification: In accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia childcare center licensing requirements, a parent/guardian must present legal documentation in person. This information must be provided before the first day of Summer Studio classes. Acceptable forms of proof of ID include a certified copy of a birth certificate, birth registration card, or passport. Please do not mail original documents or send copies via fax. If your child attended The Langley School for the 2018-2019 academic year or is a returning camper from the 2016, 2017, or 2018 season, you will NOT need to resubmit this form unless an update has been made. Medication Administration: If prescription medication (including an EpiPen) is required, parents/guardians must submit a Medication Authorization Consent Form completed by a parent/guardian and physician.

There are no refunds for absences and there is no provision for make-up classes. No refund will be granted in the event of dismissal for inappropriate or unsafe conduct.
