High School Placement At a Glance As our students enter eighth grade, we draw on the self-awareness, selfmotivation, and academic prowess attained at Langley to help them apply to and select the high schools that best fit who they have become – and will become in the years ahead. This reflective and transformative process, which occurs at a crucial moment in each student’s personal development, provides an important social reset point, allows students to truly understand and articulate their own identity, and fosters these valuable life skills: • Personal growth • Confidence • Maturity
• Self-awareness/advocacy • Resilience • Executive functioning
• Critical thinking • Decision making • Research/analysis
Langley’s Role in the Process Throughout the high school application and selection process, Langley partners with and advocates for our eighth-graders. Getting Started: In the spring, rising eighth-grade parents attend an informational meeting about the high school admission process during which they receive an information packet, including timelines and to-do lists. Counseling: In the spring/summer, Langley administrators meet with families individually to discuss interests, goals, and possible best-fit high schools. Testing & Interviews: To help students prepare for high school placement tests, we offer an online program to familiarize students with the test. We also provide mock interviews to help build poise and confidence. Personal Visits: Our administrators have developed strong relationships with admission officers at area high schools. Throughout the year, we make personal visits to these schools to advocate for our eighth-graders.
