me uced to stage manage od tr in u yo re we w Ho ers? and The Naples Play
1.
I was first introduced to TNP back in 2013 when my best friend encouraged me to audition for the KidzAct winter show with her. The rest is history! I grew up taking classes and doing the summer productions with KidzAct. I loved performing with TNP so much that I wanted to be at the theater 24/7. I got invested in volunteering by assisting instructors in KidzAct classes and being an assistant stage manager for some shows, the first being Annie Jr. in winter 2018. I think that being a performer and having a thorough understanding of the responsibilities of working backstage is a great skill to have and has definitely strengthened me as a performer as well as a respectful stage manager.
nces have you How many performa re? stage managed befo This is my first show as stage manager! It has been an amazing and rewarding experience because of the fantastic people that I get to work with, along with the kids, who I get to see progress every day in rehearsal. As a KidzAct alum, that is very nostalgic!
What’s your favorite part about working on Dear Edwina JR? My favorite part would have to be seeing these kids act like little professionals and being so productive! They are also the kindest and sweetest group. I can tell that telling the story of Dear Edwina Jr. makes them really happy which is very contagious in the rehearsal room. 6
4.
Tell us about the rehearsal process! We had a very fast turn around. The cast learned the entire show in eight rehearsals, which is basically what an Equity actor’s rehearsal schedule looks like. We had about four indepth music rehearsals with our music director Kellie, wonderful collaborative rehearsals with Jessica and Bret, and then time after that to perfect the show.
5.
Do you wish to continue working in theatre after this production? Tell us about your future plans! I am actually entering my junior year of college at the University of Utah earning my BFA in Musical Theatre. My future plans are to continue with auditioning and performing, however if anyone ever needs a stage manager, I now have this tool in my back pocket, among others that KidzAct and TNP have granted me for the past 10 years.
All of us at TNP wish Lila luck with her next steps! To find out more about stage management opportunities at TNP, contact: Cole Butcher Production Stage Manager/Internship Director cbutcher@naplesplayers.org or (239) 434-7340, ext. 125
