COMPREHENSIVE ANNUAL REPORT Where we are and where we’re headed.

COVER LAYOUT TBD.

Celebrating the past, present, and future.

2020-2021

In 1975, after almost 20 years of performing in schools and local living rooms, The Naples Players celebrated the opening of their very first community playhouse on Davis Boulevard.

Peg and Herb Sugden, Mayor Bill Barnett, Executive Director Joyce Heptner, and Ted Tobye attend the 1998 groundbreaking on the 5th Avenue South home of The Naples Players .

We are facing a challenge that we must address together: to remain a theater for our growing community, we must evolve once more. B RYC E A L E X A N D E R

Dear Friends, I have been looking forward to this moment for quite some time. While it may feel like the last few years at TNP have moved at a rapid pace, the reality is, everything I share with you today is the result of 68 years of dedicated community collaboration and constant growth. We are at a point in our trajectory that demands an exciting evolution; and we have been here before. Those who are familiar with our history know that we outgrew living rooms, school auditoriums, a storefront theater, and even a movie theater by the time we arrived at our present location in 1998. In our forever home - the anchor of downtown Naples - we have continued to grow. The programs that you have so faithfully supported are beyond capacity. Shows are sold out. Classes are full. Revenue and community impact have been capped. We are facing a challenge that we must address together: to remain a theater for our growing community, we must evolve once more. This booklet that you hold in your hands captures this moment in our story, and shares a vision that reinforces and protects our role as stewards of this incredible treasure in the heart of Southwest Florida. I am honored to share it with you, and boldly ask for your partnership. Together, we will create a sustainable, exciting, and impactful future for The Naples Players and our community.

Bryce Alexander

CEO & Executive Artistic Director

Bryce Alexander addresses the outdoor crowd during Wild Culture at the Naples Zoo in February 2021.

Shakespeare has taken many forms at TNP. From The Taming of the Shrew in 1975 at the Davis Blvd. location to Kylie Campbell acting in As You Like It on the Baker Stage in 2020.

TNP Fund Beyond sustaining our programs, TNP Fund donations enable us to aspire for more: from productions that wow our audiences, to outreach programs that grow to meet the needs of our community, it is the partnership with our donors that completes the financial resources necessary to fulfill our promise to audience members, students, and the greater community. Did you know that revenue from ticket sales is only a portion of what is necessary to operate our programs? Because TNP Fund gifts are absolutely essential, we will reach out to our supporters throughout the year, grateful that their dedication matches ours. Please give today. We are ready to put your gift into action!

We give because of the amazing caliber of shows we get to see there. Because of the camaraderie. Because of the enriching classes. Because your Readers Theatre helps actors get their feet wet. Because of the way KidzAct inspires our rising stars. Because you reach out to the theater-lovers and performers with disabilities. And because of the sheer joy that comes over TNP audiences the minute they walk in.

Supporting the present.

2020-2021 By The Numbers

The beautifully reimagined 4th Avenue entrance

BUILDING Our Future Reimagining our space means enhancing the experience of patrons, students, and volunteers and reaching the community with relevant artistry, life-changing experiences, and unique partnerships. A capital gift is significant for both TNP and each individual donor. Incredible generosity brings lasting change and sustains the incredible growth, depth, and breadth of our programs.

The Tanya & Denny Glass Educational Theater

We support TNP because of its involvement with, and in, the community. Local performers—everyday people—are encouraged to participate in all facets of the theatre—performing, backstage, classes. The spaces are comfortable and inviting. The shows are interesting and varied, and the work seems to get better and better! The help the staff provided during the height of the pandemic to hospitals and locals was amazing and endeared them to so many in our community. - PATTY & JAY BAKER

UPHOLDING THE ARTS

Legacy Society Member Peggy Pleasance is remembered for her dedication to the the arts and love for theatre. Shown here in a Naples Daily News feature article from 2000 about our Shakespeare-themed gala.

LASTING Legacies Supporters who have a passion for the arts, for theatre, and The Naples Players can ensure that their love of the arts will live on for generations to come.

One of the best things about legacy gifts is that they don’t impact your current lifestyle or your family’s financial security - and can be done in honor of you, your family, or a loved one.

A pre-planned legacy gift is one of the best routes for leaving a long term impact at The Naples Players (TNP). Legacy giving provides a level of support that magnifies our ability to fulfill our mission in the future, but it also multiplies your personal satisfaction and recognition today.

If you have already included TNP in your estate plans, please let us know! We would like to show our appreciation during your lifetime and ensure your intentions are honored. If you haven’t yet created your will or estate plan, or would like to add TNP, we are happy to make the process simple and easy!

Peggy Monson addresses the crowd of supporters at TNP’s 2020 Front & Center Gala

Jim and I are in the process of updating our estate plan. Why are we making a legacy gift to TNP? Charitable giving that takes effect after we’re gone is simply an extension of our lifetime charitable giving. It is an expression to the organizations and causes we support that they will be just as important to us then as now. The permanence of a legacy gift to The Naples Players underscores its importance to us. It doesn’t end at death. We hope that our gesture of testamentary support could perhaps be an example to other friends of The Naples Players who may also be considering a planned gift. - PEGGY MONSON TNP BOARD PRESIDENT

BOB Hill: A Legacy of Kindness Lives On On stage and off, Bob Hill was a larger-than-life presence at The Naples Players for many years. Bob and his wife Barbara joined TNP in 2000, and Bob remained involved after her passing. Bob truly represented the spirit of the Life Member award, and upon his passing, his children honored his legacy with a gift to TNP. Volunteers and actors will pass through the Bob Hill Green Room for years to come, inspiring the same dedication and passion that Bob and his children demonstrated for The Naples Players.

“ “

PLAN TODAY to Give For Tomorrow

My father’s passion was TNP where he found companionship and his love of the stage. I encourage donors to work with TNP on Legacy Giving during their lifetime, so that they can enjoy the camaraderie of others who share their passion and commitment. Be a part of the gift today!

- ANDY HILL

Robert “Bob” Hill is remembered as the man who never said no to a role, task, or idea - no matter how zany or demanding it was.

LEGACY SOCIETY Honoring your love of theatre.
