Campus, community, Catholicism and collaboration — these are the four pillars upon which juniors Tatiana Boehning and Sarah Frick have built their platform for the 2021 Saint Mary’s Student Government Association elections. One of three tickets vying for office, both Boehning and Frick have been involved in student government since middle school.

Juniors Emma Berges and Maggie Devitt are committed to enhance, ser ve and unite the Saint Mar y’s communit y. Berges and Dev itt are one of three duos that students w ill have the option to vote for as Saint Mar y’s student body president and v ice president for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Juniors Eleanor Hanson and Adriana Salgado want Belles to know they will listen to diverse voices on campus if elected student body president and vice president, respectively. “Leadership is about listening and elevat[ing] all voices so every individual feels heard and respected,” they said in their platform.

Alumna accuses classmate of sexual assault By SERENA ZACHARIAS Notre Dame News Editor

The chair of theolog y at Boston College has been accused of sexua lly assaulting a former classmate in 1987 while the t wo were theolog y doctora l students at Notre Dame. Boston College is currently investigating a llegations against Richard Gaillardetz ‘91, after theologian Laura Grimes ‘04 a lleged he assaulted her on t wo separate occasions in a series of YouTube v ideos

she released Jan. 23 and last week. Grimes said Gaillardetz assaulted her for the first time on Ha lloween night 1987 in his apartment, and then again in early December in her apartment, in the former O’Hara-Grace residences. “It was absolutely nonconsensua l because consent was never asked,” Grimes said in an inter v iew w ith The Obser ver. Gaillardetz has denied the a llegations and voluntarily stepped away from his position, Boston College’s independent student-run paper, The

In an email to The Obser ver, Gaillardetz said Boston College promptly hired an independent law firm to investigate the a llegations after he learned of Grimes’ accusations Jan. 23. “I am eager to set the record straight w ith respect to Dr. Grimes’ reck less a llegations but I have been adv ised not to respond to the specifics of the a llegations until the investigation is concluded,” he said.
