Summer abroad dropped Observer Staff Report
Saint Mary’s will not offer study abroad programming this summer, provost and senior vice president Titilayo Ufomata announced in an email to students Monday afternoon. Ufomata noted that concerns about the state of COVID-19 in the College’s destination countries informed the decision. “College policy stipulates that students cannot participate in study abroad programs in countries with a U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory Level of 3 or higher,” Ufomata said. “Currently, all of our destination countries are at a Travel Advisory Level 3 ‘Reconsider Travel’.” According to the email, students can apply for remote internships until March 20, as an alternative to an in-person study abroad experience. “We understand that this see SUMMER PAGE 4

Zahm House will be used as a swing hall for students in residence halls undergoing yearlong renovations, according to an email sent from the Division of Student Affairs to the Zahm community Monday evening. Current Zahm residents can transfer to another men’s dorm or move off-campus, the message said. Saint Mar y′s confirmed the commencement ceremony for the class of 2021 w ill take place May 22 at noon associate director of public relations Lisa Knox said in an email to students Tuesday. Conboy expressed her gratitude for Nekvasil’s 30 years of experience as a facult y member in Saint Mar y’s biolog y department. “Dr. Nek vasil is a beloved facult y member, leader and friend to our students, facult y and staff,” Conboy said.
