NEXT UP FOR HOOPS THE BEST OU BASKETBALL GAMES SCHEDULED DURING WINTER BREAK

DILLON HOLLINGSWORTH| @DILLONJAMES94 While most students head off for break, the men’s basketball team will only get busier. Here’s a look at some of the biggest basketball games you can catch over break.

VS. Creighton, Dec. 19 - Norman The Bluejays are 6-3 this season, and Oklahoma should be big favorites when they come to Norman later this month. However, the Sooners will carry a little extra motivation into this one. Last year Creighton handed OU its first road loss as Buddy Hield and company squandered a 14-point lead in the second half and fell 65-63. That memory should still be strong in the minds of a starting five that is almost the exact same as the one that took the court in Omaha, Nebraska, last November.

VS. Iowa State, Jan. 2 - Norman

CHRIS MICHIE/THE DAILY

Senior guard Dinjiyl Walker drives to the basket in a Dec. 3 game against Central Arkansas. The Sooners will begin conference play over the break.

The Sooners’ first Big 12 contest of the season should also be one of the biggest games in Norman in 2016. The Cyclones are sitting at No. 4 in this week’s AP Poll, and if both teams finish their non-conference schedules the way they are expected to, then this matchup could be a top-five showdown. This one will be shown on ESPN2 and should be a marquee matchup both locally and nationally. It should also give us a clearer picture of just what this OU team is capable of.

The Diamondhead Classic, Dec. 22-25 — Honolulu, Hawaii Lon Kruger’s squad just got back from its domination of Villanova in Hawaii, but it’ll be heading right back to the aloha state to participate in the Diamond Head Classic on Dec. 22. The Sooners kick things off against Washington State and should be the favorite in a tournament field featuring Auburn, BYU, Harvard, Hawaii, New Mexico and Northern Iowa. If they play every game possible, three games in three days should provide a stiff test for the undefeated Sooners.

At Kansas, Jan. 4 - Lawrence, Kansas Just two days after their game against Iowa State, the Sooners will head north for a heavyweight bout with the reigning Big 12 Champions. The road to the conference championship should run through Lawrence once again this season, and this will mark OU’s first opportunity to show that this is the year it can banish those demons and take down the Jayhawks. Both contests between these two squads led to wild finishes last season, and this year should be no different. This one will be broadcast by ESPN and tips at 8 p.m. With no football bowl games to compete with, this potential top-five matchup should draw plenty of attention.

Hanukkah Standards: Hanukkah Standards: There are a few classic Hanukkah songs like “The Little Dreidal Song” and “The Latke Song.” There are also several more contemporar y Hanukkah

“I am going to Miami and then, hopefully, to the National Championship as well.” Alex Hodges, communication native American studies senior

Modern-day holiday songs: Mo d e r n - d ay h o l i d ay s o ng s : Th e re’s Ma r i a h Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” which is the epitome of a holiday song. It transcends any religious meaning. At this point, this is the song that lets you know that you’re about to be swarmed by holiday songs, the smell of peppermint, and red and green everywhere. Other songs include A r i a n a G r a n d e ’s Christmas Kisses, Justin B eiber ’s “Mistletoe,”

Wintery songs: Winter y songs : Songs like “Neighborhood #1” by Arcade Fire, Kate Bush’s “50 Words For Snow” album, which is set to the sounds of snowfall, or “Hazy Shade of Winter” by Simon and Garfunkel have no religious basis.
