OU will look to make a push for the top spot in the Big 12 conference as the Sooners face the Iowa State Cyclones tonight in Ames. The Sooners hold sole possession of the second spot in the conference after a second-half rally sparked the team to a 67-60 win versus TCU, putting OU one game behind the first place Kansas Jayhawks for the top seed. The Sooners will face the Cyclones coming off of back-to-back conference losses.

Backcourt: OU junior guard Buddy Hield broke out of his shooting slump against the TCU Horned Frogs with a 21-point performance. Hield also hauled in a career-high 13 rebounds, adding to the Sooners’ strength in backcourt rebounding. In the week prior, junior guard Isaiah Cousins posted a season-high 22 points against Texas Tech. The Sooners will need to be locked in defensively against one of the more potent scoring attacks in the nation. Iowa State remains consistent as a premier, high-octane scoring unit that comfortably leads the Big 12 in points and assists per game. Part of the credit is due to the conference’s top assist-maker Monte Morris.

Sophomore guard Jordan Woodard puts up a shot during the Feb. 9 game against Iowa State at the Lloyd Noble Center. The Sooners came back from a 10 point deficit to defeat the Cyclones 94-83.

Sooners to battle the No. 12 Cyclones OU has opportunity to earn a share of Big 12 season title

he last few weeks have been stressful for basketball fans in Sooner Nation. Back on Feb. 17, the Oklahoma

men’s basketball team fell behind by six points to the Texas Longhorns with under four minutes to go before rallying for a two-point victory in Norman. Four days later, the last-place Texas Tech Red Raiders took the Sooners to overtime in Lubbock, Texas, with OU grinding out a 79-75 victory. This past Saturday provided no relief as OU would return to Norman and get consistently out-hustled by TCU, trailing behind as much as 12 points in the first half. The Sooners refocused, though, and won by seven points in the second half by hitting the offensive boards.

Our afternoon high of 53 degrees will seem balmy, but another cold front will move through in the afternoon, dropping temperatures and shifting the wind from the south to the north. of snow on Wednesday. Right now, it does not appear there will be a lot of accumulation, especially with the high being in the 50s on Tuesday. Thursday: high 42, low 26 I know we haven’t seen much of it lately, but the sun will be back out on Thursday. We also start a warming trend, and will make it back in to the low

Weather to bring a taste of Spring

Monday: high 39, low 30 Our low for the day will be in the morning, when we have a slight chance of more freezing drizzle before noon. Then we should be above freezing by 10 a.m., when we will switch over to rain, as we make our way to the high near 40 degrees and stay around that temperature throughout the evening. Tuesday: high 53, low 27 Tuesday brings us a very quick taste of spring with a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms in the morning.

The sophomore guard is averaging nearly 5.4 assists per contest. Senior guard Bryce Dejean-Jones is the team’s leading perimeter scorer, but has also seen his role and production diminished. The UNLV transfer saw a career-low 12 minutes as he was held scoreless in the one-point loss against Kansas State. Dejean-Jones has only scored in double digits just once in the past four games, averaging seven points per game in that time frame. Advantage: OU

Monday, OU makes the long trek north to face the No. 12 Iowa State Cyclones in a matchup carrying the highest stakes of the season. The imp or tance of this “ Big Monday” showdown in Ames, Iowa, is based on a monumental opportunity the Sooners have in front of them. If they are able to take down the Cyclones and then finish strong against Kansas, they will be guaranteed at least a share of the Big 12 regular-season title — their first in a decade.
