The Eastlake Male Youth Initiative (EMYI) is a 9-month leadership and mentoring program for African American males aged 10-16 and residing primarily in DeKalb County. The program gives African American males access to challenging and impactful instruction from successful black role models, leaders and mentors from the metro Atlanta area. Our goal is to develop young men to be the next generation of community leaders, high achievers and purveyors of excellence. Our program is a joint partnership between The Greater Piney Grove Community Development, Inc. and The Truth Teller Inc.

Eastlake Male Youth Initiative November 2019 This month, Eastlake Male Youth Initiative students explored “Effective Communication as a Means of Empowerment and Conflict Resolution.” Students practiced key skills to boost their confidence when speaking. They also learned how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s mastery of the tenets of nonviolence and public speaking were used effectively to resolve conflict and usher social change during the 1960s Civil Rights Movement. A wonderful, yet unexpected, opportunity allowed students to put their newly acquired communication skills to practice as they publicly introduced themselves to several hundred attendees at the 2019 Mental Health Conference held at The Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church. The impromptu opportunity coincided with the keynote speech given by Mr. Willie Moore, Jr., inspirational speaker and Stellar Award radio host.
