SPONSORSHIP BOOKLET // 2012

PASTORS LETTER It has been almost three years since we caught the vision to turn a disused cinema, the Imperial Theatre in Wan Chai, into a building that would not only host regular services and activities for The Vine church, but also to be a blessing and resource for the community of Wan Chai and beyond. Services at the Vine Centre commenced in July 2011. We have sensed God’s presence increasingly in our services and have begun to make friends with our local community. We have also fine-tuned our mission statement to reflect three key words: Presence, Passion and Purpose. We have been greatly encouraged by the enthusiasm of our faithful congregation who have responded to the significant changes very well, as we have shared the challenges faced in the financial area. We have also been able to begin a transition in church leadership that will, we believe, set the church up for future growth and ensure a continuity of a servant team leadership for generations to come. And yet, the first months have carried the frustrations that a nearly-completed building brings. Because there is still ongoing work in the building, there is a strange feeling that it is ours, but not quite ours - if you can see what we mean? The reality is that we did not expect to find ourselves in a situation where, months after moving in, the building remains uncompleted. The good news is that the end is in sight and we are looking forward to having the building fully completed in the next few months. The purpose of this booklet is to give you the latest updates on the building along with our current financial situation. At the same time, we believe it right to extend the ownership of a project instituted with the community in mind, by inviting the wider community to express that ownership through sponsorship of designated areas and/or ministries. To make this easy for you we have broken what was a massive undertaking into smaller sized chunks - so that everyone can have a share. Please take a moment and carefully consider which part you would wish to place your stake in the ground. We are so grateful for the many faithful supporters of the church, both in HK and overseas. You have been an inspiration to us and we are both honoured and thankful for your consistent support. Bless you and thank you, Senior Pastors Tony and John

OUR VISION The vision for this project has been to restore the old Imperial Cinema located in the Wan Chai district of Hong Kong to become a community church and centre, which is used to transform our city. The Vine Church has been addressing the needs of numerous gender and ethnic groups for 15 years and our vision is to use our new centre to continue our work and to reach more individuals. The Vine Church is an international community in Hong Kong that ministers to over 1000 people on a weekly basis. The Vine supports 300+ refugees and asylum seekers mainly from Southeast Asia and Africa, providing food, shelter, and care during their time in Hong Kong. The Vine also runs programs for youth in local schools all over Hong Kong, as well as weekly children’s programs. As a thriving community that has outgrown its current premises, The Vine Church has just recently renovated the old Imperial Cinema in the Wan Chai district to be used as a centre that will house the churches growing ministries and community activities. The vision of Vine Centre 2 is that it will become a pillar in the community, as the church continues to minister to people who need their help and support. SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM As part of our ongoing fundraising initiatives for the Vine Centre building project we have been looking at a number of different ways in which people both inside and outside of our church can support the project. We have found that each donor has different interests, passions and areas that they would like to invest in. This sponsorship program highlights different areas throughout our building and some of the ministries and ways that those areas are being used. Donors can then choose an area that they would like to sponsor directly. In return we will recognise each of our sponsors on specially commissioned plaques to be placed throughout the building. Please take a look through the following pages at all of the different areas that are available for sponsorship. Once you have chosen an area, you may fill out the ‘How To Sponsor’ page and follow the instructions. Thank you for taking the time to read this booklet and for partnering with us in our vision for The Vine Centre and the community. The different sponsorship areas are divided into 2 categories:

Diamond

These are single donor items with individual plaques

Circle

G/F We have a partnership with Pacific Coffee at our G/F lobby and we have been blessed to see so many people from the community coming into our building. Our Concierge desk is also hosted in our G/F lobby and we are using the lobby on Sundays to create a newcomers area where we can welcome and meet newcomers to our church over a cup of coffee. The Concierge is located right next to the entrance stairway. There is also an elevator available right next to the Pacific Coffee Company door entrance. The elevator is accessible to all 4 floors of the building and it has been especially welcomed by those with disabilities and those with small children.

FAQ I have already donated to The Vine Centre project; will my name be included on the plaque? The aim of this initiative is to try and raise additional revenue to reduce our outstanding debt on the building. Whilst we are not specifically looking to recognize previous contributions in this new initiative, if any previous donor feels strongly about this we would be happy to include them on a plaque. Will my name be on a plaque in the area that I sponsor? We intend to give due recognition of sponsors whilst at the same time as maintaining the integrity of the building. For Diamond items we intend to place your name on an individual plaque in the sponsored area. Circle items are for multiple donations, and we will put all the donors’ names for each item on one plaque and place it at the designated area. The area that I would like to sponsor requires more money that I am able to donate. What should I do? We have created a sponsorship system that allows for a wide range of differing amounts. We suggest you choose an area that fits your desired donation amount. Is there a limit on the number of people who can sponsor a particular area? We have divided all sponsored items into two categories, designated as Diamond and Circle . In this booklet items labelled with a Diamond are only available for single sponsorship. For items labelled with a Circle, multiple sponsorships are accepted. Why are you doing this now? To complete the building works we took financial loans from individuals and a retail bank. We feel that the vision of the church will be enormously helped by the repayment of these loans. We are looking at a number of ways of achieving this, and this is one of the ways that was suggested to us by some potential sponsors. After prayer and consideration, the leadership felt it was right to do this. Will you accept sponsorship from people outside the church? Our building program has been designed to benefit the whole community and we want the community to participate in this. This sponsorship opportunity provides for that. However, we do reserve the right to decline sponsorship from sources we feel are inappropriate or contrary to our vision.

FINANCIAL UPDATE The total project costs are almost HK$65M since the beginning of the project in May 2009 upto Nov 2011, we have raised HK$38.5M. This left a gap of over HK$25 M, which has been secured though a $12M bank loan, and $13.1M in personal loans. In December 2011 our loan repayments of around $700,000 per month commenced. This coincided with the end of our rent-free period of VC2, which means that our monthly expenses have increased to around HK$2.5M per month.
