Exclusive Interview with Kurupt Kurupt’s MoonrockS are a product that

is pure legend in California, and it’s sweeping the nation. Quite often imitated, Moonrocks are the real deal. First, choice quality bud is selected, secondly, it’s drizzled in potent C02 hash oil, and last but not least, Moonrocks are coated with a snowstorm of sicdust or kief powder. Few product exist that are as powerfully potent.

It’s a trifecta of THC. Ricardo Emmanuel Brown, AKA Kurupt first burst on the scene with Death Row Records, appearing on classics like Dr. Dre’s The Chronic and Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle. He partnered up with Daz to form Tha Dogg Pound and served as Executive Vice President of Death Row. His lyrical legacy goes a long ways- Both Kendrick Lamar and Eminem have cited Kurupt as one of the best hip hop artists of all time. Now, he’s focused on Moonrocks and his line of powerful cannabis products.

We were fortunate enough to sit down with Kurupt over a healthy dose of Moonrocks.

“I’m just being Gotti!” Kurupt told The 420 Book. “Waking up, spending my with my children, and smoking some good drugs, and eating some good breakfast. When I say drugs, I mean weed. Moonrockin’ everyday baby! I love it. I love the chronic. Everybody loves the chronic.

Many imitations have emerged, but Kurupt’s Moonrocks are the original. “I work with Dr. Zodiac. It came to me in an idea. We put it together. We made it happen. I followed the lead. I directed with him, and we came up with this grand product. It’s a great thing now that it’s legalized. We serve the dispensaries. We do not serve the streets. It’s a lucrative business that’s doing real well. Some people sell products, some people sell equipment, some people have liquor store. We serve dispensaries.”

Kurupt isn’t sure who offered him his first drag of marijuana- but it definitely shaped the business he would go on to launch. “I’ve been smoking since I was a child. I don’t really remember the first time, to be honest. We smoked the orange. I definitely remember the orange.

That’d make your head blow up. I remember when Snoop Dogg first gave it to me in ‘93. I said ‘Good Lord! What is this?’ That was some bad shit. Orange only. Orangina.”

Kurupt says that cannabis has always been a source of inspiration. “Of course! Hip Hop is that. Music is that. Music is feeling and emotion and marijuana is a part of that. It’s a part of Hip Hop. It’s a part of music in general. Not all music, but marijuana is definitely a part of that.”

It was then that we were interrupted by an intruder- Kurupt’s dog El Chapo. “It’s a pitbull actually. He’s a beauty. He’s manly.

How Suge Knight’s Ex Stormey Ramdhan shed light on a Hip Hop Legend

irst of all thank you so much for taking the time to talk with me.

I would love to hear a little about your life growing up. I feel like people want to jump into straight into your book and the controversy around its release, which I definitely want to ask you about because from what I have heard it is a fascinating human interest piece, but I think people also need to know about you.

SR:I grew up In LA in the Crenshaw district. I went to Crenshaw High School.

The infamous High School that was the backdrop for the John Singleton movie “Boyz in the Hood”. When he was filming that movie I was still going to school there.

My live lead to the world of business and hip hop but my aspirations were actually to become a nurse. That is not often publicized about me. I actually got a scholarship and was planning on going to college, but that whole life plan was intercepted when I met Suge. Two weeks after my High School graduation we started a relationship. The beginning is vivid in my mind because the day that he first asked me out it was to the “Poetic Justice” movie premiere. I didn’t end up going but Suge Knight has been a part of my life for almost half of my life, and had a big influence on it. We had a relationship for a long time and even had a kid. (giggles) . That was pretty much my beginning.

What was it like falling in love with Suge Knight?

Very easy, he was like a prince charming type of guy. He would show for your date on time, send flowers, he is very caring. He swept me off my feet and with guys like that, it’s very easy for a girl just out of high school to fall in love. He’s actually very traditional. Obviously once we got 10 years into our relationship we had some hard moments but he won me over very easily in the beginning.

What inspired you to write the book? Was there a final straw experience you had with Suge or someone else that made you want to reveal to the world about this huge chunk of your life and the man as you know him? It was all of it. The rumors and having to constantly explain our story. How we got from one life style to another to another. From the bottom, to the top, to the bottom again and back. Helping to build a company up and then having it all come down. Having everything snatched away from us and how we survived it all.

Hopefully it can be a story of inspiration and that is why I don’t like to call the book a tell all. I shared this story because I want people to know that no matter how hard you get knocked down you can always pick yourself up, you can always bounce back. It’s a story of strength. Of rebuilding.

Describe what life was like in the Death Row Studio.

In the beginning it was a family type atmosphere. But then they had the Chronic album out ad lived up to every word of it. You had OG Kush Blowing Everyone was supportive of each other’s projects. Everyone was humble but then by the time that Tupac came around it was more established. Then it was just celebrities hanging out walking around. It was an insanely creative environment. There were always rumors of “tough people walking around” but that edge was part of the rap culture. of course people clashed but for the most part it was all about getting music done, making hits and getting stuff done. He was always pushing people not to waste his time in the studio.

What other projects are you working on now?

Yes on that [dating] note, I am launching the online store for a new lingerie boutique named after a Hindu goddess. It’s called Rati Lingerie. We will also carry a few items for the bedroom, nothing too nasty, just to make the bedroom a little more fun.

So what is your relationship with Suge like now?

He’s been in jail for about a year and a half now, so there is barely any communication at all. I do speak with his lawyer periodically to keep up with him just for our sons’ sake, and I do know that a few of the letters that I sent did get through but he was basically being denied all communication from the outside world including family. We are now on a visitor’s approved list, and I have not gotten a chance to see him because I am not his girl friend and I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes but now we’re cool. I am in support of his being freed, I am not against him and he knows that. I don’t believe in kicking someone when they are down and at the end of the day he will always be a part of my family. We’re good.

What is the one thing you would like readers to take away from your book (theme or piece of advice)?

Number one, No matter what hardship you may endure, or what you may lose, if you believe in yourself you can always press that reset button on your life. And number two, if you are a fan of west coast hip hop read this book and come to your own conclusions rather than reading conspiracy theories. Read this and come to your own conclusions!

Having been around the music culture and the weed culture that comes from studio life for so long, what do you think about the November ballot and the vote to recreationally legalize marijuana for California residents?

I am all for it. You have my vote. Every petition I see I sign off on.

A collective providing life-saving treatment for patients, by patients Benjamin M. Adams The crew behind Vista-based collective Dr. Green Rx are hoping to help erase the negative stigma surrounding medical marijuana that persists in American culture today. By providing patients with quality medicine at an affordable price, the management behind Dr. Green Rx is making a difference in the local community.

The 420 Book: Can you introduce yourself?

Jon: My name is Jon and I’m part owner. We just opened here three weeks ago. I’ve been in the cannabis industry for almost thirty years now.

JoSH: My name is Josh and I am also a part owner. I’ve been in the industry for 5 years now. We are very excited to bring back the quality service that we have been known for.

We’re focused on the patient. Some collectives are profit-driven and all about making money. That’s not us. We’re seeing a lot of sick patients, a lot of elderly patients that are here for the medicine.

What do you hope to distinguish your collective from other competitors?

one of the main factors is the price point for medicine. It’s the green rush- the wild west. A lot of collectives are charging more than they should. There’s eighteen dispensaries in the area, and none of them are selling quarters for the price I’m charging for quarters. We have three grams of “super wax” for $100. Half of the flowers here are grown by us or someone that we know. A lot of that is organic. We’re trying to get more medicine to the patient for less money, and a better quality product.

What kind of patients are you seeing at Dr. Green Rx?

Half of the patients we’re seeing now are in their 60’s and 70’s. They really need this- they’re not just trying to get high.

We’re seeing patients that depend on medical marijuana on a daily basis. Years ago, it may have been acceptable for a collective to focus on driving profits- not anymore. I’ve been waiting for legalization since I was a kid- and I’ve never expected the industry to come this far.

As I spoke with John, Mikey, a patient suffering from debilitating multiple sclerosis, walked in. Multiple sclerosis is one of the many qualifying illnesses needed for a valid doctor’s recommendation. Mikey is a patient and volunteer at Dr. Green Rx. We had a chance to speak with Mikey, about his reasons for choosing medical marijuana for treatment and his reasons for volunteering at Dr. Green Rx. 52

The 420 Book: Please introduce yourself

MIkeY: My name is Michael Matthews. I’m a dialysis patient. I suffer from both multiple sclerosis and Type I diabetes. I’ve been doing the RSo oil and other cannabis oil treatments to rid myself of the pain meds. I’ve never really adhered to the pain medications because they just made me sick.

What kind of improvements have you seen with the Rick Simpson oil?

Huge improvements. I used to not be able to get out of bed sometimes. now I’m walking four miles a day every morning with my dog. I’m able to walk around. That was years ago, when my symptoms were very severe. I don’t even need the RSo oil anymore. Currently, I’m using just the cannabis.

Do you ever have to keep your medical cannabis use on the downlow from family, friends or employers?

no. not at all. I’m glad you brought that up, actually. I’m on the kidney transplant list. A lot of medical facilities test for THC in your blood work. They bump you down on the list, or even take you off the list if you test positive for THC metabolites. UCSD, however, is the only medical facility that I know of that allows THC in your bloodstream. I’m on the waiting list. They’re the only medical facility in Southern California that allows medical marijuana, as long as you have the verification for it. UCSD is all about medical marijuana.

I feel obligated to give recognition to UCSD, because without medical marijuana, I’d be on pain pills and Xanax.

I don’t want to live that lifestyle.

How long have you been on the waiting list for a kidney?

Almost four years now. I’m working on my fourth year.

So you’d probably not even be able to manage without medical marijuana. no. not at all.

What is your involvement with Dr. Green Rx?

I’ve known John for many years. We go way back. I wanted to help out and make a change.

Would you recommend Dr. Green Rx to someone else?

I would recommend Dr. Green Rx to anybody. We have the best staff here. I volunteer here, and I see it firsthand. I’m on disability, so I can’t work- but I’m here working.
