As one of the leading brands within the green industry, Brass Knuckles seized the opportunity to support cannabis consumers by sponsoring the High Life Music Festival on August 26 and 27 at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, CA.

Brass Knuckles offers top-shelf CO2 extracted cannabis oil products and as the title

sponsor for the festival, the brand hopes to draw attention to the prospering

industry, noting the diverse needs of consumers displayed at the festival.

High Life was a celebration competition, exhibiting the best in hip-hop, reggae, and Southern California based medical cannabis vendors. The festival was a melting pot of attendees including cannabis patients, music-enthusiasts, and everything in between creating a diverse and eclectic atmosphere. Premiere growers, breeders, edible chefs, and extract artists competed during the two-day festival in addition to the entertainment which included musical artists such as: T.I., Young Dolph, B-Legit, Brotha Lynch Hung, Young Jeezy, Yo Gotti, Fat Joe, Waka Flocka, Tee Grizzley, Twists made their appearance amongst others.

Attendees were encouraged to engage with the competition portion of the festival and prior to the festival event goers had the opportunity to vote for their favorite vendors through high Life’s website.

Cannabis patients comprised a large portion of the attendees and High Life tailored the event to their needs by providing a safe environment for them to explore the industry. The exhibits and environment gave an educational experience in addition to the social aspects of the festival. The range of vendors exposed consumers to the trending themes within the industry and changing technologies. In compliance with Prop 215, a recommendation was required to enter designated areas throughout the venue, but many attendees were able to enjoy the exhibition and the music portion of the event without a medical marijuana card.

Involved in the planning an marketing of the event, Brass Knuckles collaborated with the festival to best serve the needs of consumers. The partnership serves as a catalyst to bridge the gap between the green industry and the music festival scene.

Known for their vape concentrates such as Skywalker OG, Gelato, Gorilla Glue, Cookies, Strawberry Cough, Jack Herer, Brass Knuckles stayed true to their brand and demonstrated Quality, Reliability, Convenience, and Integrity with every detail.

With its whiskey barrels outside, the exhibit took center-stage and showcased their brand with a Prohibition theme. The three-story fixture, decorated with Edison style amber lighting to themed 1930’s décor offered a collective storefront on the first floor, a 1930’s social lounge on the second floor and a killer third floor of entertainment which included a performance stage featuring live performances, DJ Booth and dance floor.

Marijuana recipes to keep you cool

It’s hot outside. Baby, it’s really hot outside. If you’re looking to escape the soaring temps you can grab a tumbler filled with crushed ice and mix a drink with a little umbrella on the side. But that’s so old school and you’ll still be hot anyway—even if you gently fan yourself with an oriental paper fan while you turn the glass so the little cocktail parasol with the Tiger Lilies on top rolls to the other side before you take a sip.

You’ll still be hot. Really hot. There is another way. If you take a look at some of the marijuana recipes we’ve list here that are perfect for those rising mercury months, you’ll see you can beat the heat by staying high. It’s all about replacing cooling down with turning on.

Pot Burgers DRIED FLOWER is best

There are some things that make everyone nostalgic: baseball, hotdogs, apple pie and the sizzle of the backyard burger frying up on the grill on a beautiful July day. If you’re looking to tweak those lazy-days-of-summer barbeques, you should really consider infusing those meat patties with some cannabis.

There are a few things you’ll need to know here to be sure these cannaburgers are natural, organic and good for both the mind and body. Foremost, you want to be sure that you’re getting organic beef. If you can get it from a local farmer all the better but if you need to buy your beef from a grocery store do a little research. It pays to make sure your food is coming from a country with strict regulations about how animals are treated.

Dried bud is your best choice to mix in with the beef. As far as quantity goes, usually half a gram will get you enough to make a few big tasty burgers that will relax the whole crowd.

There’s no need to hit anyone over the head with a water pipe in a figurative way when you’re putting together some summer time cannabis recipes. In fact, it’s even a good idea to take something old and mix it with something new. That way you can come up with a wonderful POTato Salad that’s infused with our favorite ingredient.

You’ll need some canna oil and other fixings if you’re going to make the mayo from scratch. That includes an egg, mustard and some lemon juice. Once this is all mixed up, it’ll stay for five or six days in your refrigerator but the chances are it won’t last that long.

It’s really hard to get away from the image of those little cocktail parasols that you always want to take home with you and put on a shelf because they’re miniature and perfect and you want to respect the person who actually took the time to paint them by hand.

Nevermind that they’re probably mass produced somewhere hotter than where ever you are now—just plunk one of those little works of art into a Marijuana Margarita and enjoy the long slow ride.

Herb in a glass Mason Jar If you’ve got the time, you can put some of your favorite herb in a glass Mason Jar with some white tequila and leave it for about a week.

When you come back the tequila should be a lovely golden color and ready to go into your Margarita when you separate it from the bud. If you can find a cool dark place, leaving the jar there for up to three weeks gives the ultimate effect in the end.

Capitalize on a vintage vibe Here’s where you can really capitalize on a vintage vibe if you’re willing to invest in a stainless-steel cocktail shaker to mix all the ingredients together. It’s best if you start using white tequila.

Summer is the time when you should be looking for ways to cool down using your favorite herb. These are just a few of the angles you can use to ratchet down summer heat waves if only in your mind.

You can get creative and design your own summertime marijuana recipe buzz, or just get buzzed and enjoy the summer as you see fit.

Dr. Dina wakes up at 8 AM. Her first job of the day, is dealing with emergencies which may have arisen during the night. This is all before the store opens on a usual day, however, this varies daily for Dina. In the following weeks, she mentioned how she would be on-set as the cannabis consultant for the upcoming show Disjointed.

Launched by Netflix and a Warner’s Brother’s Production, this comedy series was created by Chuck Lorre and David Javerbaum and is starring Kathy Bates, it airs August 25.

What is a cannabis consultant?

“It’s really funny because the word consultant, especially in the cannabis industry, is widely used and barely defined—I like the vagueness of it.”

As a cannabis consultant, Dr. Dina clarifies that she is not selling a product, “I consult the people who want to sell a product”. She states how some use the term consultant and also sell marijuana, but that is not what she does. Her role is not limited, and her responsibilities range on a daily basis.

For example, she provides counsel to television and film projects, hence her role within the production of Disjointed. As a veteran within the cannabis industry, her skills are utilized all through-out the filming and production process. She has been asked to read through scripts, to identify accurate presentations of 28

Dina marijuana. Once, while working as a consultant for these types of projects, she had to explain, “None of this is going to work. That’s not how pot is grown. Pot is not grown in a swimming pool with chlorine water.”

She works with the creators, and introduces concepts and ideas that capture the realities of the industry. Her role continues with the actors, the props, and the set-decorators, to ensure that cannabis is portrayed in an accurate light.

What are some of the highlights of the industry?

“The highlights of my career, within the industry for 15 years, are seeing the medicine work. And watching with my own eyes, watching those who have been told that they have no chance, by a doctor, to survive. To have their ailment gone, and now leading healthy lives. To me, there is nothing better than that. And I would have done that, if I knew going into this industry I would never make a dollar but I would make a difference. I would still do it.

Dina comments on how the cannabis industry can seem exciting and revering to outsiders. But from an insider’s perspective, things are very different for Dr. Dina. She states the following, “Yeah, it can be sexy and exciting. But at the end of the day, others don’t have to worry that if they do their job they could be prosecuted federally for it.”

Dr. Dina abruptly transitioned into the green industry about 15 years ago, (More information can be found on her site), and has always been moving forward since. Even when they were raided by the DEA in 2007. “They came in and raided 7 stores in West Hollywood, at the same time,” Dr. Dina said, “It became personal.

It wasn’t because they came after one because they broke the law, it’s because they were after all of us.”

It was during this time, that Dr. Dina started to see that this medicine was working and helping people. When she first entered the industry, she comments on her level of understanding as cannabis as a medicine. Dr. Dina states, “Is this going to cure cancer?

No.” She thought people just wanted to get high. Later she shared the following, “When I saw it help my friend, who had cancer; it wasn’t that it was curing his cancer. It was that it stopped his nausea, which allowed him to eat food and keep his pills down, in conjunction with the chemotherapy. It helped save his life.”

Dr. Dina captures the intimacy of the cannabis movement: “There is something really powerful when someone gets diagnosed, with a disease they know will probably kill them. They are at the point where they feel there is nothing left, there’s no hope. When they come to me, when they come to the dispensary, the one thing they will leave with is hope.” However, she shares, that we can’t save everyone, and states, “I fight everyday for the people I have lost.” continued on page 30 Where the grass is ALWAYS GREENER on the other side

continued from page 29 Dr. Dina is influencing the cannabis movement in a positive manner. What she is doing with cannabis is important, and it isn’t just about her or legacies. Its about all of us together, as a future.

Now she is a more experienced cannabis consultant, and her responsibilities have evolved to also include providing alternative medical solutions.

Her responsibilities range on a daily basis, as a cannabis consultant.

Dr. Dina recounts a moment, when she utilized her repertoire of cannabis experience. Dina was approached by a friend, whose father was told that he had three months to live. Dina, using her industry wisdom, assembled a CBD Oil treatment program— because CBD Oil doesn’t get you high—and shared the alternative medicine with the family. “My friend’s mom just told her husband it was ABC Oil. She kept calling it ABC Oil,” Dina chuckles, “She even told the doctor’s, ‘I have him on ABC Oil!” Dina’s friend was diagnosed in August, and her friend’s birthday was approaching in April. Her friend feared her father would pass on her birthday.

But instead, a year and a half later, Dina’s friend approached her and said, “I thought we were going to lose him on my birthday.

But instead you gave me Halloween, My Birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and it continued.” This was a miracle, that forever marked Dina. These experiences, helping those close to her and those afar, have galvanized Dina to continue working within the green industry.

ADVENTURES AT AHHSWEHO Alternative Herbal Health Services, or AHHSWEHO (pronounced OZ-WE-HO) is an officially permitted West-Hollywood medical Marijuna dispensary. The storefront opened in 2004, and is the oldest established shop in Southern California. Dr. Dina can be found here regularly, either consulting or attending to the many needs of the shop.

AHHSWEHO is not an adult-use store, it is a medical cannabis dispensary for patients. Dr. Dina recounts an experience at the storefront, where she asked herself, am I making a difference?” When suddenly, a young gentleman enters the shop, and he seemed to be of sound mind and healthy body—why would he need medical marijuana?

Dina comments, “I was being a smart ass, and I never should have said that.” The boy asked if she was joking, she was not. Then the boy started to cry; Dina felt horrible. She then continued, “The boy said, ‘This is so great! I was in Afghanistan, and I got shot. I have a glass eye. I think everyone stares at me and I have paranoia because of it.

But you just confirmed I look fine!’” Dr. Dina recounted how she experienced a wave of emotions; she was astounded and comments, “Here I am thinking, just insulted this guy, and he’s crying. But he’s so happy that I didn’t know his glass eye. . . I’m thinking to my self, you should never judge. You should know better!” Dina shares a friendly reminder, that we should never judge. She says instead, “What is your problem, so we can help you.”

THE NONPROFIT “There are a lot of people that are in jail, serving massive amounts of time for cannabis all over the United States. And its disgusting.” Dr. Dina continues to explain “Unfortunately 10% of all people who smoke pot, will get arrested at some point.”

FreedomGrow.org is helping people in prison for non-violent, victimless cannabis crimes.

Dr. Dina explains that people all over The States are being arrested, including those in California, Washington, Colorado, and more so in other states. Where cannabis is not supported legally, socially, or by other means, people are receiving long term imprisonment. Freedom Grow, Dina explains, “For those serving 10 years or more, we put money on their books for commissary.” Dr. Dina continues to explain how commissary is a valuable resource for those who are serving long term sentences. “Our goal is to let these people know that they are not forgotten. And that we love them and people care about them.” A legitimate non-profit, all of the proceeds generated for FreedomGrow go to the prisoners, and its entirely volunteer-based.

Dr. Dina states, “When I first got into the industry, I didn’t know anyone who had gone to jail for smoking weed. After a few years. . . The circle just kept getting closer.” FreedomGrow.org is helping to make a difference in people’s lives, check their site, its worth reading. Moreover, the organization supports ParentsforPot, by providing holiday joy to children of the parents who have been detained for nonviolent Marijuna crimes.

Dina shares, that the foundations of the green industry were based on a notion of compassion.

“I was shocked about this word compassion. People would come in, with no intentions of pulling out money, and they would say ‘hey, can I get some compassion’? And people would just give them weed, and this was normal. Do you walk into Nordstrom and ask for compassion?

But this only flies in our world.” Dr. Dina continues, “We even had it written into the West Hollywood Bylaws, that we have to give out free product as compassion.” There is no standard in Los Angeles, that forces storefronts to give out compassion. However, AHHSWEHO holds themselves to a standard. Dr. Dina continues, “Because there are no rules. [We] have to create our own moral code—especially in this industry.” Keep in mind, not every storefront holds themselves to this standard.

HOW DO YOU PREFER TO GET HIGH? “I’ll make it real easy. I’m a dabber. I like my dabs.”

Dina tells how she goes through phases with her cannabis, and sometimes she only prefers one thing. In regards to strains, she’ll go for Tangie—for some flavor change. But she’s not really a sativa woman. Dina states, “I’m a hardcore OG girl. And not just any, I like West Coast Cure’s and BAMF’s.” Her greatest hi-dea? A hi-dea, is a good idea when you’re high. Her greatest hi-dea was a prank so daring, that she couldn’t share it with me.

WHAT IS THE CANNABIS MOVEMENT TO YOU? Dr. Dina pauses for a moment, then she shares the following, “The movement to me is just a bunch of like-minded individuals, who are sick and tired of letting bipartisan government dictate how we’re gonna use our medicine. And how we’re going to come together to change the laws federally, I think that’s the movement.”

Dr. Dina is a compelling woman. As an advocate within the industry, she is working to change modern perceptions of cannabis. As an industry veteran, Dr. Dina has fulfilled a variety of roles, and has helped a plethora of people. Strange and interesting facts about Pot

Pot is gaining momentum. As more and more states see the advantages that come with lighting up for both physical health and mental well being, Mary Jane is going mainstream. People are interested like never before. They want to know more and more about this lovely leafy green substance. With that in mind, here’s some strange and interesting facts about marijuana.

America’s First President Grew Weed If you stop and think about it, George Washington had a completely mellow look on his face that you can attribute to him growing his own weed. At least the rumor is that’s exactly what America’s first president did. There’s even a theory to make it more surreal and that’s George Washington used marijuana to alleviate the pain of wearing wooden dentures.

Hippies Didn’t Invent It If you start really looking at the history of pot, you’ll see it goes further back then even Haight-Ashbury or Bob Marley. In fact, some very credible sources have traced medicinal marijuana all the way back to ancient China.

The Drug Enforcement Administration Museum in Arlington, Virginia, might seem like an unlikely place to find that kind of information. However, that’s where it can be traced back all the way to 2727 BC and a Chinese Emperor named Shen Nung who discovered the substance and was using it medicinally in those ancient times.

Pot for Pets?

If you’ve been following along with the different uses for marijuana, you know that people have been using it to alleviate the suffering of their pets for quite some time. The Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association did some research and reported that for the most part, cats and dogs get over the effects of pot in a few hours just like we do. Still, they did send out one big red flag— too much of a good thing (in this case pot) can actually kill one of our four-legged friends.

Pot Affects Men and Women Differently If you’re already rolling your eyes reading that headline, consider this information comes from The Journal of Drug and Alcohol Dependence. In a study that involved female rats, researchers found that females were more likely to develop a dependence on marijuana but they were also more sensitive to the pain killing qualities of pot.

Getting a Bang from Bhang

Generally Available We think we’ve scored some major breakthroughs recently with the relaxed recreational and medicinal marijuana laws. However, around 1850, pot was available in pharmacies and the general corner store. At the time, authorities already knew it was useful in the treatment of ailments like nausea, labor pains and even rheumatism.

The more states move to legalize it for medicinal and recreational use, the more creative Americans get with how they prepare their marijuana. We might think we’re on the cutting edge with our recipes and pre-rolls, but we’ve really got nothing on people like the Indians.

Bhang is a traditional Hindu drink that’s been served as far back as 2000 BC.
