Franklin College Athletic Director Kerry Prather said he “can’t” say why the women’s basketball coach is out of her job and a search for a replacement is underway. Prather announced in an email Monday that Coach Jennifer Lodge Temple “is no longer the head women’s basketball coach.” He refused to elaborate on the details of her departure.
Temple said she can’t comment now on the resignation. Sophomore Katie Brewer, a forward, said it’s tough to not have a coach now, but she said the players will keep their teammates accountable during the off-season. She said learning new plays from a new coach will be the “least of our worries.”
“We still have the same fire in us to be the best in the conference next year,” Brewer said. “And I believe that we will, no matter who is our next coach.” Three other basketball players declined an interview or did not respond to requests via email. The college appointed Temple as the head women’s basketball coach in May 2012.
She previously worked as an assistant coach for the past two years at Mars Hill College in North Carolina. In her first season there, the team finished with 17 wins. This was the most for the team in six years. They finished with only five wins the previous season. Temple’s success continued when she took over the head coach position at Franklin.
