Student Congress elections were supposed to be held on Thursday, but instead, sophomore Erika Brock is the new president after an uncontested application process. Brock said her biggest goal for next fall is to increase the level of communication between Student Congress and the student body. “I know sometimes Student Congress can have a negative look,” Brock said. “And some people don’t really think that we do a lot. I think that a lot of what we do is so behind the scenes that people don’t know, and I think that needs to come more to light. “ A debate between candidates was scheduled to happen Tuesday. But because there weren’t enough candidates to facilitate a debate, it was canceled via an email sent to students. In order to apply to be a member of Student Congress, a prospective candidate must meet a 2.5 GPA requirement and have other students sign a sheet backing them as a candidate. Deadlines were extended due to a lack of applicants, but all four officer positions went unchallenged. Brock said she did not have a specific campaign platform because she ran uncontested, but in addition to making communication more transparent, she said she would like
to bring Student Congress together. “I know this year we’ve had some issues with people leaving,” Brock said. “It’s been Gary Qi: The Franklin kind of chaotic.
