Recent economic indicators suggest a slowdown in inflation and a cooling economy. The Federal Reserve is content with these trends and is considering a reduction in the federal funds rate this year. This adjustment is expected to alleviate some of the upward pressure on mortgage rates

Unfortunately, rates are unlikely to return to the historically low levels observed in 2020 and 2021 Additionally, as rates decline, homebuyers may face new challenges such as heightened competition and escalating home prices

The MBA's prediction indicates a range of 6 1% to 6 9% for 30-year mortgage rates in 2024, with NAR's forecast aligning closely at 6 1% to 6 8% On the other hand, Fannie Mae anticipates a drop below 6%, projecting rates to reach 5 8% by the close of 2024 While there is some variation in forecasts, the consensus is that mortgage rates will decrease in 2024, possibly approaching or falling below 6% by year-end
