MOVING A SCHOOL Moving schools... with Eric Winstone, Head of Ormiston Bushfield Academy, former Head of PE and Head of House at the original school when it first opened in 1978. Moving house is one of the most stressful things in life. A quick search online and my own experience confirm this is not a lie. However, it is one of those things which can be avoided if you plan effectively, utilise your experience and remain calm and controlled when things don’t go to plan. With the average household in the UK comprising just over two people, our leadership team at Ormiston Bushfield Academy faced a task about 500 times bigger when they moved the existing school into our brand new state-of-the-art academy building. After the school doors closed for the summer holidays our staff, Kier Construction and our removal partners, Johnsons, set about transferring the equipment. Believe it or not, the whole process required 2,000 boxes to packed, moved, placed into specific locations in the new building, and unpacked - and it took just four days! Everything is now in place and we are finishing off some of our stateof-the-art equipment, such as our recording, radio and television studios, over the next couple of weeks. The careful planning behind the scenes ensured the process ran smoothly and we are likely to be completed well ahead of the new school year. The academy opens to students on Wednesday 5th September. The academy’s open evening will take place on Tuesday 9thOctober. For more information please contact Maureen.Roberts@bushfield.co.uk”

HEALTH, HAIR & BEAUTY Hi Beauties For those of you that are parents – you maybe sighing in relief, because the kids are finally back to school! Just as you’ve managed to juggle working, days out, play-dates and household chores its now time to get back to the manic school run. This usually means more time being spent on operation ‘get the kids to school’ than spending time on yourself, until now… I have the top four tips to transfer you from Mummy to ‘Yummy Mummy’ in 15 minutes flat.
1.
Quick fixes for ‘back to school’ beauty…… 1. Hair There’s nothing worse than waking up and seeing that your hair looks like a birds nest. But don’t fret – a quick brush and a messy bun is always a quick option and can take less than five minutes. Alternatively if your blessed with hair that doesn’t end up looking like a scarecrow when you wake, just give it a quick squirt with dry hair shampoo, brush and be on your way. It really isn’t necessary to wash your hair everyday; the longer you leave it the more the oils can nourish the hair.
2.
2. Simple Skincare I personally can’t feel fresh until I’ve cleansed, toned and moisturised and seeing as this takes only a couple of minutes, there’s no excuse to not take care of your skin and get rid of any make-up from the previous day.
3.
3. Make-up It’s not a must to have a full face of make-up for the school run or even for work, just think simple. I recommend applying BB cream all over the face, which not only evens skin tone but makes your skin glow, followed by blusher, mascara and a quick slick of lip gloss. This all takes less than five minutes and will make you feel made up without having to spend too much time.
4. Eyelashes/Tan Eyelashes and a tanned face make it look like you’ve had time to spend on your make-up even if you have none on. Why not try eyelash extensions so when you wake you can just do your skincare routine and you’re good to go. Tanning your face means you’re less likely to need foundation, meaning another make-up application you can save time on by not doing…

So far I’ve attempted roundabouts and the A1 (which, I have to admit, scared me quite a bit). My theory test is in a few weeks time, so I’m frantically learning rules and road signs - not the most thrilling way to spend my evenings, 23 but it has to be done!
I know it’s daunting and you most likely really really don’t want to go back to school, but we all have to do it. It’s not all that bad though – you get to see all of your friends that you didn’t get around to catching up with over summer, and there’s the chance to start afresh and really make sure that you’re doing the best that you can! Why not take the opportunity to join a new club or sports team? If you’re nearing the end of school and thinking about university, then any extra-curricular activities that you do will really enhance

HOME & GARDEN
Garden Scene By Joseph Whitehead www.gardenwiseadvice.com
The first days of autumn and subtle rustic tints start appearing amongst now tired foliage. That gentle, calm, winding down feeling replaces the bustle that was summer, I love this time of year.
JOBS FOR THE MONTH Kitchen Garden • Lift and store main crop potatoes to avoid damage from slugs. • Pick apples as they ripen, extras can be stored in boxes or on shelves in a cool room or shed out of the sunlight, never store damaged or bruised fruit. Leave a gap between each apple, and check regularly for rot. • Prepare a bed for autumn planted garlic and over wintering onions.

EASY AS RIDING A BIKE out on the road. However we also get much younger people who want to ride to work and learn how to cycle safely in traffic.” Aside from the environmental and physical benefits, cycling is an extremely practical way of travelling. Not only is it very wallet-friendly, it is often a quicker way to travel, particularly during rush hour. FAMILY SCENE
Books for school Whether you have one, two....or even five children to buy books for, the costs can quickly start to grow. Primary and Junior age children enjoy reference books, aimed at their age groups, which are more pictorially focussed. In Secondary school, researching topics becomes an almost weekly task. And if your children are heading off to college or University, then the good old ‘recommended book list’ can leave you watching the pennies and pounds disappear fast! Whilst many parents enjoy investing in their children’s futures and education, it needn’t be at the expense of the family budget. Website

Libraries
Your local library can source a book for you, through its network. Visit the library with your topic details or reading list for help in finding books which work for you.
Downloads
Books needn’t be purchased as a paper copy anymore. If a download is useful, many e-readers and mobile phones have links directly to popular online bookstores.
Swap
Get together with other parents and friends to swap books and ideas.
Car Boot / Charity Shops
You may well strike lucky and find the book you are after at a car boot sale or in a charity shop. If you are looking for further reading, outside of the recommended list, then this could be the place for you!
Advertise
At Uni or college, advertise the books that you want to buy...everyone else is advertising what they want to sell, so they’ll come to you!
Lunch bag odours If your child’s insulated lunch bag has made it through the last school year reasonably unscathed, then a deep clean is in order rather than buying a new one. Mix baking soda and water together to form a paste. Scrub inside and rinse and dry well. Alternatively, sprinkle in dry baking soda. Leave it overnight to absorb any lingering odours. Olympic Fever Following on from the huge success of the London Olympics and the resulting feel-good factor, you may be wondering what to do with your time, or perhaps you have got the bug to participate in a few of the events that you watched live or on your TV. Local travel company Inspirational Travel has come up with a few ideas for unique activity based holidays that will offer you the chance to “thrillax” and continue the Olympic buzz!
Canoeing in Zambia It’s not all about white-water rapids, which can have you clinging on for dear life. No sir, there’s also the serene but spectacular Lower Zambezi where you can glide past the residing hippos and elephants at a more relaxed pace but still enjoy a truly enthralling experience. Exclusive camps like Chiawa & Old Mondoro are situated right on the river bank and provide the perfect base from which to paddle your canoe and enjoy crocodile-like views of the best birdlife and wildlife that inhabit the area. Horse Riding in South Africa Forget the top-hats and show jumping, deep within the Limpopo Province are the luxury lodges of Ant’s Hill & Ant’s Nest where you can happily gallop amongst the game, which gets so close the memories will remain etched in your mind. Canter along open sandy tracks, or traverse high ridges with spectacular vistas, the pace can be as fast or relaxed as the

rider likes, and with its being suitable for all ages, who’s stopping you going? Sailing in Grenada, The Caribbean Known for its year-round Regattas, Grenada’s sailing scene is for all ages and all experiences. One of the most distinguished yachting events is the Annual Grenada Sailing Festival, which is an integral part of the Annual Caribbean racing calendar that’s held towards the end of January. This event features several days of races and enthusiasm, along with a day-long craft market and street festival. Festivals are what the Grenadians like, and there is bound to a great party going on after a firsttime medal in London this year. Diving in Mozambique Okay so maybe we’re cheating a bit here as we are not talking about high boards (we like to call it “poetic licence”), but the scuba diving in Mozambique should allow us to be forgiven,

as it is has some of the best coastline in the world with many wonderful dive sites off its whopping 1,500 mile-long coastline. At White Pearl Resort, Ponta Mamoli, courses are available for those who are starting out or simply wanting to brush up. From single day introduction courses to a five-day open water course, possibilities in the water are in abundance. Water-based activities don’t stop with diving; it is also possible to swim with Dolphins and witness the majestic sight of Loggerhead & Leatherback Turtles nesting on these shores. Cycling in Morocco You might not be a quick or as fit as Mark Cavendish or Bradley Wiggins but cycling through Morocco’s scenic countryside requires no training, although if you really want to test yourself then the country’s Atlas Mountain range is the place for you. Split into the Middle Atlas, High Atlas and the Little Atlas, each range has its own degree of difficulty; from serious mountain biking through the steppes of the Little Atlas to the winding
roads of the High Atlas, home to the nation’s highest peak, and the Middle Atlas, which is home to Tazekka National Park and the prime place to spot the likes of Barbary Wild Boar, Common Genet and Jackal. If you are after activities that are a little easier why not enjoy some beach volleyball on a pristine beach in The Maldives or maybe play a few games of tennis at a luxury resort in Mauritius? Both destinations are sure to be much warmer than Horse Guards Parade or Wimbledon! In Dubai, Oman or Abu Dhabi you could try your hand at archery or a variety of shooting activities. Whatever your interest, Inspirational Travel can tailor a holiday to suit your needs and budget and provide you with a “gold medal” experience. To get ideas for your next activity break simply call 01780 784380 or email info@inspirational-travel.com.
